After completing a year as a Mechanical Engineer at PAVE, I was moved up to the Technical Manager position. My increased responsibilities included: supervising the production and procurement of components; being responsible for the assembly and testing of the machines; technical design work and drawing maintenance; and the guidance and training of an intern.

I joined PAVE CNC WIRE FORMING as a Mechanical Engineer immediately after University. I was initially recruited to update the company’s old paper drawings into CAD models. These components can then be assembled, checked, and modified much more easily. I was also given training on the factory floor, in order to get a good idea of the machine-making process from start to finish. In my first year, I learnt a lot: mechanical design, the company’s drawing standards, machining, fitting, assembly, troubleshooting, and more. I also took on the role of training our clients when they came into the factory.

I completed a 6 week placement with Grissan Engineering Services Limited, who are a leading engineering company in the Anaerobic Digestion field. They have multiple large plants across Scotland, and I spent two weeks at their largest site in Girvan and the remainder at the Birmingham office. Most of my time at the company was spent on a P&ID rationalisation project, where I checked and updated Piping and Instrumentation diagrams by hand before updating them in AutoCAD. I completed some other work on P&IDs as well, but in the planning phase for a different site. A side project that I completed included finding possible improvements that could be made to the Company’s Data Management System, creating a possible framework for an updated version, and reporting this back to the Commercial Finance Leader.

I completed 2 summers (July - September, 2017 and 2018) of accountancy work at Bulley Davey Peterborough, giving me insight into the dynamics of a professional work environment, developing my skills with numbers and also gaining the skills to use accounting specific software. My time was mainly spent producing accounts for Sole traders, Partnerships and small Limited Companies.
