James Hamraie lives and breathes privacy/cybersecurity, corporate compliance, I.P. law, and commercial transactions.James is a law student at GSU, earning a specialized degree in I.P. Law & Compliance (Privacy, and Cybersecurity). A graduate of Emory Law, James faced a profound challenge when diagnosed with stomach cancer during law school. Temporarily stepping away from his studies and job offers for medical leave, he underwent successful surgery and treatment, emerging from the experience with heightened resilience, a greater awareness of personal strength, and a deeper sense of gratitude. James serves as student vice chair for the ABA TIPS Privacy & Cybersecurity committee. He is an active member of the State Bar of Georgia (Privacy & Tech, I.P., Law and Taxation sections). James is also member of the IAPP and an aspiring Data Privacy Professional. He is studying to obtain his CIPP/US certification in December 2024 and a Privacy Engineering Program Certificate from Carnegie Mellon University, James is also a proud member of the Leadership Douglas Class of 2023 and is extremely passionate about community service and empowerment.James received a B.A. degree in Political Science from Emory University, focusing on policy, security, and governance. He was fully engaged with Emory's acclaimed Barkley Forum debate team while spending summers gaining experience as an associate at the Anti-Defamation League in Atlanta, GA, and at a Bankruptcy Law firm in Texas.Drawn to legal practice following several years working at the Emory Barton Child Law and Policy Center, James eventually left an executive role in a youth-focused nonprofit to pursue his J.D. degree at Emory Law.
