James Harper-Bailie (He/Him) Email and Phone Number
Experienced Doctoral Researcher with a demonstrated history of working in the higher education industry.Skilled in Microsoft Excel, Customer Service, Theatre, Performance Studies, and Public Speaking. Strong research professional with a Theatre: Directing focused in Theatre/Theater from Falmouth University.I hold a First-class degree with Honours in Theatre: Directing from Falmouth University (2013). As part of a Research Masters (ResM) undertaken at University of Plymouth I currently hold Sixty Masters level credits that were awarded as part of an upgrade route to PhD, these are in: Research in the arts and humanities and Researching Performance. A threshold average of Sixty-nine points or higher was achieved across these two modules. Further to these I have also undertaken a Post Graduate Certificate in Academic Practice (PGCAP) resulting in me becoming an Associate Fellow of HEA, this is a qualification that I would be keen to further engage with and become a Fellow of HEA.As a collaborative researcher I am incredibly passionate about being able to create a space to allow for collaboration with colleagues and students alike, a highlight of each academic year is Performance Ensemble a module where the students create a large-scale group performance with the assistance of several members of staff. Creating a truly collaborative non-hierarchical working environment for all involved. My PhD research is focussed upon de-centred non-hierarchical forms of knowledge and performance practices. As a result, I have spent much of the last decade working in digital formats. I am comfortable with multiple ways of disseminating and sharing performances from online digital spaces, to curated digital and analogue galleries whilst also being incredibly comfortable working in more traditional studio spaces due to my teaching practice . This means that I am comfortable teaching and sharing knowledge of how to create for these digital formats and the resources needed to ensure that students can create in an impactful and successful way. Enabling students to make a shift away from normative performance spaces, allowing for digital creation alongside traditional making practices is imperative for all theatre practitioners seeking to make work post university.
