In my role, I draft contract waivers, edit conflicts letters, and copy documents under the supervision of an attorney. I create, manage, and file legal documents through Microsoft Excel and Legal Key, allowing years of unorganized digital files to be organized in a clear and consistent manner. I also implement a shelving system for physical files, rearrange file areas, send records off-site, and track misplaced files during the renovation of the office.

As Nelson Langer Engle PLLC’s law clerk, I work extensively on personal injury cases and insurance disputes. There, I craft discovery and summary judgment motions, letters to opposing counsel, and legal memoranda on a variety of cases from pre-trial to settlement. My experience is comprised of working independently for multiple attorneys simultaneously and meeting all deadlines. I quickly teach myself areas of law, participate in mediation, and present in court. I work on cases with little briefing or history, learning how to effectively sort through and find legally significant facts and laws to zealously represent the client's interest. Clerking directly under a Family Law Commissioner, I review various protection orders, conduct legal research on issues of guardianship and family law, observe superior court pre-trial hearings, and prepare bench books on matters of social media and Limited Legal Licensed Technicians, to name a couple. I co-teach the course America and The World for the Duke TIP Program. The course focuses on political science and international relations, with emphasis on concepts such as multilateralism, feminism, climate change, and liberalism. Independently analyze, document, and record statistical information gathered from Canadian Appellate Courts in New Brunswick and Québec in analyzing the influence of gender on the court. Information is gathered by listening to hearings, documenting the parties, judicial gender, and whether or not they were represented.The assignment is part of a larger research project intended for publication. I co-presented the findings in Chicago, IL at the Midwest Political Science Association in April 2014.
