James "Jay" J. Fleming is an Associate Attorney at Clark Hill PLC. He concentrates on Civil Litigation, Construction Litigation, Commercial Litigation, Real Estate, Environmental, and Political law.Mr. Fleming was a member of the trial team that recently prevailed on behalf of Detroit Black voters in Agee, Jr. et al v. Benson et al, 1:22-CV-00272 (W.D. Mich). On December 21, 2023, the federal three-judge panel found in favor of plaintiffs and declared 13 Michigan Senate and House districts in the Detroit area racially gerrymandered and unconstitutional under the Equal Protection Clause. Mr. Fleming is routinely successful at the summary disposition and trial stage on behalf of a diverse range of business, municipal, and individual clients.Jay graduated from the Michigan State University College of Law and was admitted under the Legal Education Admission Program (LEAP), an accelerated program allowing Grand Valley State University students to earn both an undergraduate and Juris Doctorate degree in six years. While in law school, Jay was a member of the Geoffrey Fieger Trial Practice Institute, a two-year litigation-focused certificate program, and earned the Jurisprudence award for his civil trial class.During law school he worked as a law clerk to Jackson County Circuit Court Judge John G. McBain and Michigan Court of Appeals Judge Michael J. Riordan.Jay graduated with honors and earned his Bachelor's degree in political science from Grand Valley State University. Jay was the long snapper on the GVSU football team from 2014-2016.
