Retired from Network Rail after working on the Railway for 44 Years, 2 month and 12 days in the Railway industry, from starting in British Rail Engineering ltd on the 11th August 1980 has an apprentice in Crewe Works.

Senior Project Engineer (E&P) on Track Development for Both S&C and plain line national Renewals Programme.Key duties:•Manage the safe development and delivery of a programme of projects to agreed scope, time, and cost for E&P, liaising with other disciplines.•Provide feasibility, where required, for OLE, Third Rail, Plant and Signalling Power works.•Develop and complete the E&P element of project specifications.•Manage CDM risk throughout design and construction phase.•Review and assess competence of E&P designers and contractors on the programme.•Liaise with other portfolios i.e. advise on parallel design where required. •Oversee Source Document requests and returns from external parties.•Review and approve all OLE, Points Heating and Power Supply design for S&C projects.•Review and approve “Plain Line” OLE & Third Rail design.•Host / Attend Design Review and IDR meetings where required.•Deal with all E&P TQs from designer / implementation team.•Review E&P element of WPPs and advise on site safety and risk management.•Resolve any technical issues with respect to feasibility, design, snagging and follow up works.•Provide estimates of E&P “ancillary” costs to assist with Business Planning.•Review contractors target costs for E&P elements of the programme.•Highlight and manage any necessary derogation from Standards.•Apply for Tracker non-compliances where required.•Verify the production and hand back of As Built drawings and commissioning documentation.•Identify where efficiencies can be made throughout programme.In my current role I am one of the few people in the team with an E&P background. I therefore have a great degree of autonomy and oversee the E&P element of the works from feasibility through to completion. This means that the role is varied and requires excellent self-motivation, time management and task prioritisation in order to prevent E&P issues adversely affecting the track renewals programme.

Network Rail Project Engineer (E&P) for both electrification and Plant, responsible mainly for S & C Renewals within LNW Track and for the approval of design deliverables supplied by consultants and contractors, additionally produce scope of works for Points heating schemes. Representing Network Rail for Pre and post walkouts relating to OLE and E&P schemes, also attend IDC / IDR meetings. Current have ATW for P.E. duties relating to Engineering Management for Projects 02009.

Network Rail Design Engineer (EPDG) for S&C OLE Designs, working in the New Design group to support S & C Renewals Nationwide for Track Asset Management and responsible for producing in house designs, which include site walkouts and surveys to enable both outline (Form A) and detailed designs (Form B) and providing Technical support as required to ensure that they meet the requirements of appropriate Network Rail Standards.

Network Rail Project Engineer (E&P), responsible for Plain Line Renewals and S & C Renewals within LNW & LNE Track and for the approval of design deliverables supplied by consultants and contractors, additionally produce in house designs for plain line OLE and Points heating schemes. Representing Network Rail for Pre and post walkouts relating to OLE and E&P schemes, also attend inter-discipline design and ROG/QRSA meetings. This involved having PDE Authority for Electrification and Plant for Form A and B submissions. Working to the Network Rail Engineering Management for Projects.

Electrification Senior Project Engineer for Carillion Rail at Crewe, responsible for managing project scheme from Plain Line Renewals to S & C Renewals, which includes overseeing a small team of Project Engineers and technical staff, Also undertake technical survey / investigations. Assist in preparation of Safety, Quality & Environmental Plans, WPP and Task Briefing sheets. Including pricing of various Electrification projects and monitoring costs. Provide on site technical advice and assist Electrification Project managers with design, tender, safety and quality matters. Works included Section Proving for Electrification Installations. This included been a network rail approved allocated Designer and Checker for OLE designer and construction designs on site. I have also been hired out part time to network Rail in the TV4 project, this includes an outline plans in staging the Isolation diagrams and section proving documentation from 2 track to 4 track railway.

Electrification Principal Technical Engineer for Carillion Rail at Crewe, responsible for providing technical assistance and undertake technical survey / investigations. Provide on site technical advice and assist Electrification Project managers with design, tender and quality matters, which include Calibration of Lifting Equipment.

Electrification Technical Manager for Jarvis Rail at Crewe, responsible for providing technical assistance and undertake technical survey / investigations for the Maintenance department. This include the control of Calibration of Lifting Equipment.

Electrification Principal Technical Officer (higher-grade duties) for G.T.R.M. at Birmingham New Works department, responsible for estimating and tendering for installations and assisted Design Engineer with major projects and refurbishment’s. Amend / Produce designs using Microsoft Cad Package.

Principal / Senior Technical Officer for IMU Centrim Buildings & Plant at Crewe , responsible for estimating and tendering for major / minor installations and refurbishment’s for electrical / water services. Other duties included planning and designing electrical projects to current I.E.E. Regulations. Included carryout electrical power monitoring as req’d.

WS’B Progress Inspector at A.B.B. Transportation in Crewe Works, responsible for monitoring progress / inspection of material and manufactured components for production line of Class 90/91 mainline AC locomotives.
