The most fun I have ever had at a job. As a substitute, I was able to help in the education of the local children. I loved this job so much that it has changed my career path. Starting August 26, I will be attending LSUE on the LSUA campus to earn my degree as a teacher. I didn't think I would love to be a teacher and I always felt that, if you don't love being a teacher, you shouldn't be a teacher. There are certain jobs that are just jobs, but to be a teacher is to shape the minds of the next generation and I want to be part of that. I want to challenge them into thinking for themselves and to be able to think for themselves, because when a person can purposely think through a situation, they can do anything.

I have returned to Walmart with one goal: to help support my family and my education. In this role I am responsible for the Front End running as smoothly as possible (with such a tight budget for cashiers) and working/merchandising the Impulse Items department, which includes batteries, candy, tobacco and various items throughout the store. The Impulse Items department was a mess when I took the ZS position, but I've almost gotten it under control. As soon as I have that piece cleaned up, I will be able to spend more time ensuring the front end associates are doing their job. This may seem backwards, but we are almost at inventory, so that is why I'm focused on my department rather than the front end, right now.

I was responsible for everything in the store. My experience with Family Dollar was not a positive one. When I took over the store, it was a mess. I tried to clean it up and to get the store in good order, but the District Manager would not give me the help I needed to do the job. In six weeks, I talked on the phone with him a few times, but he did not come to the store. I finally left the company because he told me that we had to unload a truck, which must be done from outside through the Fire Exit, while a Hurricane was passing through our town. Most businesses were closed due to the hurricane, but our District Manager and the company didn't see any reason for us to close.

I am responsible for supervision of approximately 30 associates. My job functions include schedules, evaluations, task management, discipline, identifying opportunities and ensuring they are corrected, planning and execution of projects.

Planning and performing daily installations of DirecTV satellite equipment, cabling and related materials. Daily/weekly inventory and replenishment of work van. Direct customer service. Replacement and repair as needed.

Ordering stock, merchandising, assigning tasks and follow-up, monitoring daily sales and adjusting staffing as needed, daily/weekly store sales metrics.
