The roles includes the following key objectives:1. Manage/Facilitate Council initiated (or Council supported)economic, community, cultural, youth and/or tourism relatedactivities as required;2. Provide assistance to communities in strategic planning and in theimplementation of strategic projects;3. Explore and implement opportunities and strategies with economicand social development principles/outcomes;4. Preparation of high quality funding submissions for Council andcommunity and manage ongoing progress and milestone reporting;5. Prepare monthly reports to Council;6. Assist with the drafting of complex or special correspondence andreports including any research as required;7. Represent Council and/or Deputise for the CEO on committees andat functions as required;8. Ensure regular positive media coverage of Council and/or districtprojects and activities as per Council’s Media Policy; and maintainadvantageous relationships with local media;9. Plan, edit and distribute Council’s quarterly newsletter as a keycommunity engagement tool;10. Administer the delivery of Council’s Community Projects Grant;11. Develop and maintain relationships with government at local, stateand Federal levels.

A joint initiative between neghbouring Council's and Regional Development Australia within the region, to present a joint strategic direction for Tourism within the Southern Flinders Ranges.

A community task force setup consisting of members of various community interests, including Local Government. The group was formed following the devestating bushfires which ravaged the Bundaleer and Wirrabara Forests, which lead to a high level of economic uncertainty. The role of the group is to seek long term sustainable economic outcomes for the region and to ensure the views of the community are presented to both State and Federal Government.

Through the National Partnership Agreement on Preventive Health the Australian Government provided funding through the Healthy Communities Initiative (HCI) to support Local Government Areas (LGAs) in delivering effective community-based physical activity and healthy eating programs, as well as developing a range of local policies that support healthy lifestyle behaviour.The Southern Flinders LIFE program, was the localised version operating across the Northern Areas Council, Port Pirie Regional Council, District Council of Mt Remarkable, District Council of Orroroo/Carrieton and the District Council of Peterborough.
