Construction Engineering Intern-Worked alongside a resident engineer in downtown Chicago on projects including patching under Lake Shore Drive, inspecting bearings, and taking measurements of deterioration, and full repavement of a bridge deck near Millennium Park.-During the second half of my internship, I was given more responsibility helping to oversee bridge scarification and overlay of three bridges on I-355 to I-88 ramps in Downers Grove, IL.-I tracked the quality of the MOT on site each day, marked out and measured patches that would be filled with an epoxy or concrete if they were larger, calculated the total area of these patches in square yards for the contractor to pay, and watched many tests including pull-off and air content tests and performed many sound tests on concrete.

10 week summer internship was completed. I received an excellent review at the end of this by my supervisor.-I learned about the policies and structures that affect the way that Illinois’ transportation infrastructure helps goods, families, and emergency services get to where they need safely and efficiently. -I worked closely with the staff on revising a contract proposal and with personnel issues such as a transition to remote work for engineers and technicians.-Went in field weekly with Veteran Civil Engineers and learned about bridge inspection, Cement and Asphalt manufacturing and Gravel Pit Excavation.
