Engineering leader experienced in building the machinery for building great products. In the past, I've worked a lot on search, personalization, and data-powered products. I work on building stronger teams and better machines for creating great products. Looking for better and faster ways to correctly identify and quantify changes to enable a product's iteration and success from model evaluation tools to A/B testing to avoiding getting kicked in the head by bad data. Enabling growth and mentoring future engineering leaders. I'm interested in systems of continuous learning.

Owner And OperatorCore Sep 2021 - Oct 2022New York, Ny, UsAssumed co-ownership of Core Fitness and ran the continued building and growth of the business as a lean operation. We worked on everything from managing contractors to maintaining servers to discovering and building new features to handling payments and customer support. While we were able to move quickly, grow even faster, and serve thousands of students and learn many product and business lessons along the way, ultimately we decided to close the business. -

Director-Level, Senior Engineering Manager, Payments And GrowthTeachable Jun 2019 - Sep 2020New York, New York, UsEnabling creators to share their knowledge. I managed the teams powering Teachable Payments and what became the fastest growing segment of Teachable revenue. Worked with the team to navigate compliance, growth, and retention. I also concurrently managed the Growth and Marketing Production teams, working on both long-term and short-term marketing initiatives to grow creators on the platform.Managed a team of tech leads and engineering managers of Payouts, Checkout, Growth, and Marketing Production teams to work closely with product and work in a cycle of build-measure-learn. We brought Teachable Payments into the age of PSD2 compliance, built data-driven infrastructure for product analytics and Teachable's first A/B testing system, and built marketing campaigns with high-production value in short time frames.Coached and grew individual contributors, leaders, and managers with a servant-leader mindset. Led the effort to create and roll-out Teachable's first engineering career ladder to give clarity and certainty and calibrate titles and compensation across the org. Engineering ManagerEtsy Jan 2014 - Feb 2015Brooklyn, Ny, UsEngineering Manager of the Personalization teamLed a full-stack product team. Was lucky to work with an amazing multidisciplinary team of engineers // designers // product // data science. We worked on optimizing each users experience throughout Etsy, helping users see the relevant, interesting slices of our >30 million item marketplace. In a year's work, we grew Etsy sales by over 7%.Homepage: Our largest project was creating a new, signed-in homepage that was centered around a personalized feed that provided both recommended and social content optimized for each user. Using our new API-First platform, which we helped build, we were able to launch across all platforms: mobile iPad, mobile Android, mobile web, and desktop in a short amount of time.Global Nav: Our other major project was to completely revamp global navigation across platforms, both to synchronize a product that had diverged across multiple platforms as well as become stuffed with the needs of various often forgotten products across the team – all while provable maintaining and later improving key metrics for the large existing user base.API-First: I also helped put together a unique, year-long cross-team working group to redefine our development process at Etsy to be a mobile-friendly API-First rather than web-centric in support of fast and coordinated development across platforms in a multiplatform world. -
Senior Analytical EngineerEtsy Jan 2013 - Dec 2013Brooklyn, Ny, UsViral Growth TeamWorked with the team to create a data-driven product development process. Fixed several major bugs in our data collection, big data stack, and A/B testing framework. I introduced an approach of data analysis as engineering – reproducibility, reviews, fixing bugs and iterating, making it resilient, sharing and learning from best practices.Working with product, took on day-to-day project management and team planning responsibilities. -
Software EngineerEtsy Jun 2010 - Jan 2013Brooklyn, Ny, UsSearch Ads, API Team, Buyer ExperiencePart of a team of just two engineers working on scaling out ad serving and logging to 40mm daily impressions soon after initial launch. I worked on measurement and data visualization: spent a lot of time counting things properly and then counting them again. From the insights gleaned from the data, I worked on optimizing ad matching and serving, heavily contributing to doubling ad efficiency and revenue over the course of a year, including redefining the primary algorithm by which ads were served and the biggest single improvement in ad efficiency.Cut my teeth on the API-team, learning from awesome engineers who had scaled the previous generation of web startups. Wrote Etsy's rate limiting library that was used heavily across the codebase.
