Pantaenius Australia MD Jamie MacPhail grew up on the water where he developed a love for sailing and all water sports. Jamie successfully competed both nationally and internationally in many dinghy and keelboat classes in his teens and into his twenties.Jamie went on to represent Australia in the Etchells class at numerous international events and placed in the top 10 in the world on a number of occasions, including winning the Californian Championships and placing 4th in the highly competitive USA National Championships. Jamie was then selected to represent Australia as skipper for the winning 1996 Kenwood Cup team, and a range of other international regattas including winning the 1996 Air New Zealand Regatta.Back in Australia Jamie was focusing on his yachting business specializing in the sale and project management of a number of well known racing yachts including:LocomotionMad MenQuest 1, 2, 3No FearSword Of Orion 1, 2Team DavnetJamie successfully project managed, skippered and sold no less than five different Hamilton Island Race Week winners in the 1990’s. While inshore regatta sailing has been Jamie’s focus he has competed at the Admirals Cup, Transpac Yacht Race and also the Pineapple Cup (Miami to Montenegro) where he placed third as watch captain on a well-known maxi.During this time Jamie’s achievements also included introducing and successfully launching the J35, Mumm 36, and 11 Metre One Design Classes in Australia as well as participating as a partner in the company that built the now well-known Etchells One Design Class.Over the years Jamie has nurtured and trained a great number of young sailors, many of whom are still successful today, in Australia and around the world in the Volvo Ocean Race, the Americas Cup to name a few. This is the aspect of his yachting history that Jamie is most proud of.Success over many years has given Jamie both respect and a high profile in the Australian boating industry. With numerous years filled with sailing and travel, he now prefers enjoying the sport at a more local level or spending days on the water with his partner and their children.Jamie’s biggest success to date began in 2012 when he became the Managing Director of Pantaenius Sail & Motor Yacht Insurance Australia which he has built into a significant business and one of the most reputable and popular marine insurance firms in Australia.
