Power Bi SmeTake2 Consulting, Llc Nov 2021 - PresentVienna, Va, UsIn my role as a Power BI SME at Take2 Consulting, LLC, I remotely supported the VA in Washington, DC. I assisted with the major cleanup of the SQL Server database. I helped ensure the accuracy of data for report generation. Once there was high confidence in the data, I wrote several Power BI reports. Data Architect7-Eleven Oct 2018 - Apr 2020Irving, Tx, UsDeveloped an end-to-end solution to extract data from multiple sources, transform and load (ETL - SSIS) this data into a centralized System of Record (SOR) database. From the SOR database to the Model Stage database where the data models (dimension, fact, and aggregation tables) were developed for the creation of Power BI datasets. The largest fact table (800 million rows) required the use of aggregation tables for Power BI report and dashboard performance. This end-to-end solution infrastructure was developed in Microsoft Azure. The development of encapsulated datasets using Power BI Desktop provides consistency and a single version of the truth. This has provided data analytics to the executive, financial, and operations teams to visualize past trends at various data points with environmental data overlays, but also predictive analytics to help set a course for the future. Technologies include various Microsoft Azure services including Azure SQL Database. SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS), Alteryx Designer, Power BI Desktop and Service, Visual Studio 2019, SQL Server 2017. Skills used during development: Database design and modeling (relational and tabular), SQL Server 2017 development, Azure SQL Database and Storage accounts, Azure DevOps, Azure Analysis Services and SSIS packages development (both in Visual Studio 2019), Alteryx Designer used for ETL processes between the SOR database and Model database, Power BI Desktop used to develop datasets and reports, Power BI service including shared datasets, reports, dashboards and app development including administration of work group access and security, Power Apps and Power Automate.Company was sold and all of IT and other departments were laid off incrementally to assist the new company with the transition only. -
Database Software EngineerSelf-Employed Sep 2015 - Sep 2018Rewrite of a large legacy business application using Visual Studio 2015 Team Foundation Server and SQL Server. This project was for a company called Hardware Resources. My involvement started in September 2015. The project had an expiration date scheduled for the end of December 2016. However, development is planned to continue through 2017. Developing the business data layer classes using VS C# .NET, Entity Framework, LINQ queries and on occasion SQL Server, scripts, triggers, stored procedure, and UDF's. The stored procedure and UDF's were developed to be called from a business data class method when the process called for it. However, most of the queries written were LINQ queries within the various business data class methods. Each business data class is associated with each database entity.

Sql Server / Bi DeveloperGe Oil & Gas Jan 2010 - Aug 2013Converted several Crystal Reports and reports written in ASP to SSRS. This included writing several stored procedures and functions to provide the dataset for the reports. Assisted with the migration of the ERP system to the latest version and replication of multiple Progress databases used by the ERP system into a single SQL Server database. Developed SSIS projects to extract data from 13 Microsoft Access databases spread out all over the world used for component testing into a single SQL Server database as a solution to provide much better analysis of the testing of the Oil & Gas products manufactured by the company. The testing and engineering departments could now get a global snapshot of how the various products were performing and still be able to narrow analysis down to a single global site. Setup SQL Server 2008 R2 cluster on a two-node Windows Server 2008 R2 cluster. Assisted migrating all SQL Server databases including the data warehouse to GE servers once the company was acquired by GE. Performed ETL troubleshooting when the Analysis Cubes were not process. Usually caused by data where adjustments could be made to make sure the data would not cause the problem in the future during the processing of the Analysis Cubes.

Sql Server Dba/Software DeveloperBuilder Software Solutions Aug 2006 - Mar 2008Primary responsibility was to convert their existing flagship product called Home Builder Warranty Console which in the beginning were two database applications. The Warranty database software was a separate application from the main Home Builder Warranty Console database software. Together, they provided the Home Builder warranty information. However, the users had to work in two systems which became cumbersome and frustrating. Both systems were built using Visual FoxPro databases. Tasked with the design of a new SQL Server 2005 database for the Home Builder Warranty Console system. One of the goals of this database design was to create the tables needed to include the Warranty system. The Warranty system was to be included in the Home Builder Warranty Console and no longer be a separate system. The Warranty system became a new menu option in the Home Builder Warranty Console system. Bringing the Warranty system together with the Home Builder Warranty Console made the software complete instead of being fragmented. Once this major upgrade of the Home Builder Warranty Console system was released, the customers were delighted to have both of these systems brought together as one system. This new system meant users no longer had to work with two systems any longer. It was an exciting time to see how excited the customers were of this much-needed design improvement. I also diagramed and documented the entire SQL Server 2005 database. Added end-user flexibility and helped increase productivity by adding features and interfaces to make the software easier to use and speed up data entry.

Sql Server Dba\Systems DeveloperQuantumdirect, Inc. 2004 - 2006Austin, Tx, UsLed development team to convert outdated FoxPro DOS application to Visual FoxPro 9.0 desktop application using a SQL Server 2000 database backend. Performed live conversion of the database, shared by the Visual FoxPro desktop application and company web application from FoxPro tables to SQL Server. Designed SQL Server 2000 databases using database diagramming product called xCase. This allowed the design to be synchronized with the SQL Server development database for testing and then moved to the production database. Used Neverfail for SQL Server to provide replication and fail-over support. Used Quest Spotlight on SQL Server for performance monitoring. Spearheaded effort to locate sales and contact management database solution for the sales and marketing teams. Database ProgrammerCiccorp Inc. Mar 1999 - Feb 2001Worked with the development team to convert a Visual FoxPro file-based application used to track asset management proposals and claims to a client/server application. SQL Server 7 was the backend database for this client/server application. The Visual Foxpro framework that was used to develop this client/server application was Visual FoxExpress 6. The previous application was written in Visual FoxPro 5 using the Visual ProMatrix 5 framework. Developed conversion program to convert file-based databases to the SQL Server database. Involved in the research and selection of the Visual FoxExpress 6 framework which was chosen due to its n-tier design and OOP capabilities which fit perfectly in our client/server development scheme. Used xCase to design the SQL Server database and then generated the SQL Server script to create/modify the SQL Server database. Involved in creating several remote views and writing SQL pass-through code in the application business objects. Converted the reports from Arpeggio to Crystal Reports 8. Used Visual Source Safe to check-in/out class libraries during development. Developed several utilities to enable users to keep the SQL Server database data clean. Also, I developed small file-based database applications for the IS department to keep track of network connections and hardware. -
ProgrammerReltec Jul 1997 - Nov 1998Rewrote the technical call center application to the Engineering department's specifications.
