I am a graduate of the MLS program at the University of Maryland College of Information Science, Maryland's iSchool in the Information and Diverse Populations concentration. I worked for two years as a librarian with Prince George's County Memorial Library System. I am now a Program Officer with the United States Institute for Museum and Library Services (IMLS). The portfolio that I manage is based on funding opportunities in open educational resources (OER); broadband access; digital inclusion; open data; civic technology; and data privacy and security.I maintain a strong interest in the future of public libraries. In mid-August 2014 I began working in a Librarian I position at Prince George's County Memorial Public Library System (PGCMLS) - Hyattsville branch. On August 24, 2015 I moved into a new position at the Administrative Offices of PGCMLS as a Librarian III - Digital Services. I left PGCMLS at the end of October 2016 to begin work with the IMLS.My background and experience consists of book selling in several independent book stores, volunteer service in the Peace Corps in Zaire (Democratic Republic of the Congo); graduate education in anthropology; publicity, marketing, editorial, and sales roles in academic and scholarly publishing; public school teaching; experience in public relations, and project management and web design experience in user experience design. My personal strengths are public speaking and written communication, digital literacy skills, people skills, and a devotion to community and humanism. I'm also an excellent teacher with a flair for analogy, illustration, and storytelling.
