I supervise the A&AS team supporting the Division and provide both scientific (chemistry, biology, materials science) and project management (DoD acquisitions, PPBE, POM planning) support to the client on research and development of CBD Physical Technologies.

I supervise the A&AS team supporting the Division and provide both scientific (chemistry, biology, materials science) and project management (DoD acquisitions, PPBE, POM planning) support to the client on research and development of CBRN Protection and Hazard Mitigation Technologies.SAIC Fellow - The Fellows Program recognizes 25 individuals (in a company of 25K) providing technical excellence and innovation. I was a principle investigator supporting chemical and biological defense (CBD) and counter-WMD mission areas for current DoD customers in development of the Chemical & Biological Effects Manual (CB-1). For CBD, I also researched, analyzed, and consolidated data and methods related to materiel effects resulting from exposure to chemical, biological, or decontamination agents. Other areas of my research included, but were not limited to, agent properties, human effects, sensors/detection, protective equipment, transport and dispersion, and risk/consequence assessment.

I managed a diverse team of scientists to develop, execute, manage, analyze, and report research that addressed specific scientific questions of national significance in support of biodefense preparedness, response, and recovery. Areas of research were related to the physical, biological, molecular, and/or pathogenic properties of viral agents of biodefense interest to DOD and DHS. I was responsible for the internal oversight and technical/programmatic execution of NBACC Threat Characterization Virology Projects that were performed in an ABSL-2/3/4 facility.

I managed the virology program in the Drug Discovery Division at Southern Research was adjunct faculty at The University of Alabama at Birmingham. As a principal investigator of projects focusing on the development of new targets, therapies, and vaccines for biological threats, I was responsible for performing the scientific evaluation of incoming programs to determine the development steps required for the transition from discovery to pre-clinical development. While focusing on the development of new targets, therapies, and vaccines for viral biological threats, I was the driving force behind the viral assay development and team investigating small molecule probes and therapeutics for the Southern Research antiviral discovery program. Accomplishments included the completion of a Molecular Libraries Program funded grant, the development of a BSL-4 high-throughput screening platform, and management of the NIAID-funded In Vitro Virology Screening Contract.I’ve participated in the acquisition and biosafety management of the Defense Threat Reduction Agency-sponsored Biological Threat Reduction Integrating Contract for former Soviet Union countries (Ukraine, Armenia). I also provided biological subject matter expertise, particularly biological WMD, to the international team. I managed and directed daily operations including staff, laboratory operations and financial resources, provided data analysis and presentations on projects to internal and external partners, and managed multiple technical personnel, as well as post-doctoral and graduate students. Lastly, I acted as PI or co-PI/technical representative on multiple (>100) grant proposals and contracts.Specialties: Government and Commercial Contract and Grants Management and Execution. Development and validation of high-throughput assays for antimicrobials with diagnostic, antiviral, biodefense, and vaccine applications.

I investigated the biochemistry of host-virus interactions (with emphasis on influenza) and developed and validated high-throughput screening assays for a variety of viral and bacterial pathogens for antimicrobial discovery. Work focused on development of new assay systems for target validation and high-throughput screening of small molecule libraries. I served as the Principal Investigator for a Project BioShield Award and as PI or co-Investigator on several previous university- and NIH-funded grants (MLSCN, MLPCN, and NIAID). Developed and validated new screening and vaccine evaluation assays for high-priority influenza strains. I successfully administered the projects (e.g. staffing, research and product development, budget), collaborated with other researchers, and produced several peer-reviewed publications from each project. M team demonstrated a record of successful and productive research projects in an area of high relevance for infectious disease, novel assay development, and lead compound characterization.
