James Pierce is the Dean for the Watkins College of Art at Belmont University. He has served as design faculty since 2009 and co-created the Experiential Design BFA major in 2018. James holds a BFA degree in Design Communications from Belmont University and an MFA degree in Graphic Design from SCAD. His thesis for the MFA degree, entitled Natural User Interfaces in the Information Age, explored the history and changes in consumer-based computer interactions. James began his creative career in the video industry, working with local, regional, and international clients. However, he primarily worked with non-profit clients. After over a decade of experience in video, he applied his expertise to web design and development.In 2008, James started a built and launched Pixolio, a company that allowed artists to create websites without needing to know all the inter-workings of web design. In 2012, he co-founded Venture360 and served as the CTO for six years. James built and supports GluKey, a tool for diabetics using the Dexcom continuous glucous monitor (CGM) to unobtrusively display real-time glucose readings in the macOS toolbar.
