James Powell is Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Trident Capital. In addition to serving as Chairman of the firm’s Management Committee, Mr. Powell manages the Global Event Driven businesses and is Co-Head of the Investment Committee. Mr. Powell graduated from McGill with a Bachelor of Arts in Mathematics and Statistics and went on to receive an MBA from the University of Ottawa Telfer School of Management. He currently serves on Visiting Committees at both universities. While at McGill, Mr. Powell was captain of the varsity squash team. Prior to founding Trident Capital, Mr. Powell spent nine years as an analyst at RBC Investment Group, where he worked in the Equities department and was a member of the Management and Investment Committees.
