Analysing data from line transects using distance sampling to monitor the populations of forest elephants, chimps and gorillas in Conkouati-Douli National Park and preparing manuscripts for publication.

The majority of my work was focused on researching and designing an Ecological Monitoring Strategy for Kenya to monitor key populations, ecosystem health, threats, pathogen spread and law enforcement activities across the country. This was in collaboration with the Kenya Wildlife Service, IUCN and UNEP. I was also responsible for data analysis and preparation of a scientific manuscript for a camera trap study carried out in the Boni, Dodori and Arabuko-Sokoke Forests, Kenya.

Reviewing a 25 page grant proposal for the Lac Tumba Landscape, a key area for bonobo conservation in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Bangladesh

My main responsibilities revolved around designing, implementing, and analysing social and ecological research projects and carrying out all monitoring and evaluation activities within the organisation. I also wrote grant proposals, reports for donors and partner organisations, prepared manuscripts for publication, designed and carried out training and capacity building activities, provided supervision and support for Bangladeshi BSc, MSc and PhD students and provided technical support for partner and stakeholder engagement, communication and fundraising activities.

Sorting and analysing the outputs from the 2050 Tool, a UK government project to determine attitudes and priorities to climate change and renewable energy.

Tsavo East National Park, Kenya

Conducting aerial and ground surveys of the translocated hirola population in Tsavo East National Park and using habitat suitability modelling to investigate the importance of habitat as a limiting factor in the growth of the population.

Designing and conducting research into the acoustical effects of flock size on the predator responses in common starlings. Funded by a NERC grant under Professor Arthur Goldsmith and Dr. Andy Radford.

Mafia Island Marine Park, Tanzania

Conducting surveys of the coral, fish and invertebrate communities found in the marine and intertidal habitats of the Mafia Island Marine Park. This information was then compared with data from baseline surveys to determine the effectiveness of the Marine Park over its 10 year existence.
