It’s inappropriate for a physician to do an office visit with a simple bandage change and not address the overweight diabetic with an elevated blood glucose, poor eating choices, not offload the pressure, keep the edema under control, and truthfully warn that this leg will need to be cut off unless you undergo an immediate drastic lifestyle change. Unfortunately, that’s usually all physicians have time to do.

Wonderful place to work. I was recruited out of the USAF/ Air Force by the Department Director to expand and develop hyperbaric program into complete wound care program. Civilian hyperbaric programs were just getting started. Created policy and procedures from scratch. Developed hyperbaric treatment plans unique to podiatry, plastic surgery, and infectious disease. Educated physicians and hospital staff on appropriate use of hyperbaric oxygen. Helped form alliances with all physician specialities which contributed to program growth. Treated patients from the ER, ICU, inpatient post-op recovery, in-patient, and out-patient hyperbaric treatments.Expanded facility from 2 tiny mono-place chambers to 4 large mono-place chambers. After hours, part time work, I was recruited by the hyperbaric Safety Director, a nurse I trained at Hendrick, to unite an existing wound care physical therapy team with a newly started hyperbaric program for a complete wound care program. Provided education to the PTs and floor nursing staff on the appropriate use of hyperbaric oxygen. Assisted with hyperbaric start-up for a brief period.
