The Leahy Institute for Rural Partnerships seeks to more thoroughly connect resources at the University of Vermont with communities throughout our great state. The goal: To help improve agriculture, education, transportation, housing, healthcare, communications systems, economic vitality, governance, and sustainability for the benefit of all.I'm tremendously proud to be a part of this ambitious enterprise.

I've spent the better part of 25 years working to communicate the complex issues of science, sustainability, and climate change to a wide variety of audiences. "Heroes of the 21st Century" is in many ways the culmination of that experience. "Heroes..." illuminates the work of people who are fighting against climate change, using two complementary media channels: 1) fictional webcomic stories; and 2) video interviews with the real-life experts whose work inspires those webcomics. My goal: Inspire students and early-career professionals to dedicate their passion and talent to the struggle against climate change.

Spotlighting activities in Green Chemistry, Sustainable Chemistry, and Green Engineering, because the advancements made in these disciplines are foundational to success in climate change and sustainability efforts.

For nearly 10 years, I had the great pleasure of serving as a workshop facilitator with the Alan Alda Center for Communicating Science. In this capacity, I led highly interactive sessions for technical experts and senior leadership at organizations such as NASA, the US Environmental Protection Agency, the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL), Pacific Northwest National Laboratory, Toyota, Pfizer, Hershey, Bayer, the Broad Institute, and more research universities than I dare try to list.

As an instructor with the Alan Alda Center for Communicating Science, I had the honor of working with incredibly talented scientists, engineers, clinicians, public policy thought leaders, and other experts from institutions around the country. These people do tremendously interesting and important work, and it was my great pleasure to help them more effectively share that work with the public.

SiteStories, LLC develops entertaining, informative multimedia content for the internet. We create pieces for clients, as well as original programming for direct syndication to the web.Clients have included the Aircraft Owners & Pilots Association (AOPA), the Green Chemistry Institute, best-selling author Robert Alexander, award-winning filmmaker Allison Argo, and the national PBS cooking show "Chefs A' Field."

Produced stories for public radio stations nationwide, with a focus on environment, business, aviation, and science. Story credits include "The Flying Circus," “Green Buildings” and “Sustainable Agriculture” (WAMU, Washington, DC); “Green Chemistry” (WFYI, Indianapolis, IN); and “Natural Capitalism” (KAJX, Aspen, CO).

The DfE program is a voluntary partnership between the EPA, industry, and academia to search for and test alternative, cleaner technologies. When found, such technologies were evaluated along side the standard technologies for their performance, cost-effectiveness, and environmental performance. When viable, cleaner alternatives were found, DfE published training materials to educate the industry on these alternatives.
