Collection Strategy and Vision: The Collection Chair plays a key role in shaping and defining the strategic direction of the museum’s collection. They work in close collaboration with the museum’s leadership and board members to ensure that the collection aligns with the institution’s mission, long-term goals, and the evolving needs of the community. This includes setting priorities for collection development and providing guidance on thematic and geographic focuses.Acquisition and Deaccessioning: The Collection Chair leads the oversight of acquisition and deaccessioning strategies, ensuring they reflect the museum’s objectives and collection policies. They guide the board and curatorial staff in evaluating the significance, quality, and relevance of potential acquisitions, as well as in making informed decisions about the removal of artworks that no longer fit the collection's vision or needs.

Teaching an advanced graduate studio and research methods course. The role of the researcher/artist/teacher will be studied in the context of contemporary art and theories of educational research. As teachers and researchers, we ask; How does our art making help us to know something we did not know before? Research methodologies will be studied in the light of studio and pedagogical practices.

In charge of teaching Advanced Placement Studio courses, International Baccalaureate course and other fine art studio courses. I have been teaching at Provo High School for over 21 years where I have an ongoing visiting artist lecture series, rigorous student exhibition program and strive to have students embrace contemporary and traditional approaches to art expression. I was recently honored for my exemplary art education program by receiving the Sorenson Legacy Award for Excellence in Arts Education. I received a cash award of $2,500, and Provo High received the same amount to provide continual support for its arts program.

Serve on the executive board which helps put together the largest outdoor multi-disciplinary arts event in Utah. Having garnered numerous awards internationally, nationally and locally, the event remains one of the premiere events that kicks off the summer in Utah each June. The festival, currently housed at Library Square in Downtown Salt Lake, started in 1977 on Main Street. The Fulbright Association engages current and former Fulbright exchange participants in lifelong experiences that advance international understanding through volunteer service to communities, people-to-people diplomacy, and dialogue on global issues. Fulbright Association members form the active constituency for Fulbright exchanges to ensure that they continue to benefit future generations. Established on February 27, 1977, the Fulbright Association is a private, nonprofit organization whose members are Fulbright Program alumni and friends of international education. The Association supports and promotes international educational and cultural exchange and the ideal most associated with the Fulbright name -- mutual understanding among the peoples of the world.

The NAEA research commission builds on established evidence of best practices while opening opportunities for emerging research interests and methodologies. These changes address new generations of art educators, who are ready to use the methods and practices of research in their classrooms, schools, and communities to demonstrate the effectiveness of teaching and learning. The NAEA Research Agenda includes a range of concerns including: professional learning; methodology; policy initiatives; content research factors, and research topics/questions.

The Governance of the NAEA is comprised of division directors and four vice presidents who represent geographical areas. As VP I serve as the Coordinating Board of the Delegates Assembly, which shall study and recommend, through plans, reports, or resolutions to the NAEA Board, issues pertinent to the membership of the NAEA and the profession at large; shall review amendments to the Constitution and Bylaws and recommend action to the NAEA Board; A. Model excellent leadership by representing the best interest of all NAEA members at Board meetings and by working closely with the Director-elect/Vice President-elect; B. Develop a focused program for the Divisions/Regions that clearly supports the Strategic Plan goals and priorities; C. Brainstorm and identify issues relating to division/regional members and recommend programs and activities to meet member needs; D. Propose publications, institutes, and Convention sessions to support members; E. Assume duties and responsibilities assigned by the President as outlined in the Constitution and Bylaws, and serve as Division/Regional liaison to the NAEA Board of Directors; F. Fully participate as a voting member at all NAEA Board meetings; G. Act as an Ambassador, describing the vibrancy of the NAEA professional community and explaining NAEA policies and programs; H. Prepare and submit Division/Regional reports to the NAEA Board of Directors about activities, accomplishments, and projected plans to serve and support NAEA through the Division/Region, including membership, communication and the Convention; I. Maintain communication (read and respond to all communication in a timely manner) with President, Executive Director, and Board members to fulfill business of the Association, the division/region, and establish and maintain communication with Elects; J. Plan and coordinate Division/Region events at the National Convention

As part of the Advisory Board I support this MFA program where students gain the skills, knowledge, and experiences essential to overseeing arts programs in a variety of settings. SUU offers a resident Master of Fine Arts degree, a Master of Arts degree, and undergraduate courses in arts administration. Each program is designed to blend a passion of the arts with the professional business skills necessary to promote, maintain, enhance, and fund arts organizations.

The NAEA with over 17,000 members is the largest creative community (established exclusively for visual arts educators, university professors, researchers and scholars, teaching artists, administrators, and art museum educators. The Change Leader Program is a professional development course with an active network of course graduates. Participants attend a three-day institute with instruction on assessing environments and the communication and facilitation skills necessary to implement change. Following the institute, Change Leaders practice these skills by completing a certification project. These certified Change Leaders form a network of leaders that share a common language, mentor each other, and convene through leadership circles and conferences.

I've been involved in Art21’s Education Initiatives since July 2011 and come to the organization to share perspectives and experience. Working with a team of 12 other art educators who who share a fundamental belief in the power of art, artists, and ideas to inform the most idealistic tenets of education. I am teaching MED 646-Cutting Edge Pedagogy, which I've unofficially renamed "Current Issues in Art Education: Contemporary Art/ Contemporary Teaching"-This course will provide an opportunity to explore new ways of teaching and making art based on the interests, efforts, and outcomes of artists and teachers working and teaching today. Recently was part of teaching a two-week “Intensive” that features regionally and nationally acclaimed artists. The summer session focuses on experiencing—and“trying on”—the thought processes that inform the making of new work: a play, amusical score, a soundscape, a dance motif, a non-representational painting.

Served on several panels reviewing art education grants submitted to the Utah Art Council. I also am part of their Change Leader Institute. The Change Leader Institute is a professional development course that addresses leadership issues in relation to leading change. Our goals are to better equip arts and cultural leaders to deal with environmental and organizational change, and also to create a statewide mentoring network in the arts and cultural community. http://artsandmuseums.utah.gov/

I teach studio design courses in the art department and courses in the art education department. The art education program prepares students to create artwork that is personally meaningful and socially relevant. Students investigate how art and art educators can become active forces for social justice and ecological responsibility.
