Trained and used for John Holland AU Rail OTM Engineering departments - Tamping principles, Interaction of track and machine variables, planning, maintenance of machines, consolidation and lifting systems, smooth tamping, Design tamping manually, 3 point lining, Manual and computerized projection of transitions and vertical curves.Competency acquired to operate 08-16 P+C Tampers. Fully conversant with all rail general and engineering worksite safety and regulations. All equipment functions pre-move checks and servicing and lining calibrations.Win ALC Geometry operator and maintenance trace competent. Experienced in operating and controlling geometry data files and merges with trace data files. Able to use the computer mode with the leading cab and rear manual lift and line adjustments in maintenance or shutdowns / blockades.

Transferred (under TUPE conditions) to Amey COLAS post the re-tender of the high output contract. My role is predominantly based with the high output team based in Swindon, but I regularly integrate with my colleagues in conventional track renewals for ad hoc weekend/ midweek track renewals throughout the country. Office responsibilities include: general medium/short term planning, production of WPP’s and Task Briefings, production of Permits to dig’s, hot works permits, collaborating as built data, producing WIN-ALC geometry files for tamping, verifying design information, monitoring Track Quality Trace Reports, owning and organising the CRT register/ watchmen, producing technical data relevant to the site works. Site duties include: HOTRS (Track Relaying System) and HOBCS (Ballast Cleaner): Site mark ups, utilise Mephisto trolley for tamp measurements, monitoring new track for level/ alignment & cant, stressing and ALC tamping, site supervision and management. Conventional Renewals – setting up dual grade lasers, using dozers for formation, sand and bottom ballast installation. Use of dumpy levels and 3d survey equipment to provide as built data.Handover responsibilities include : Correlating rail and sleeper installation, excavation/ ballast, tamping as-built data, weld and stress certificates, use of GEOGIS and compiling Health and Safety File for Network Rail representatives, reviewing track quality traces in ALC / DAR then booking necessary follow up tamps, compiling/ reviewing the health and safety handover file then meeting with the client to agree handover.

Site duties include: Working with the High output trains I was responsible for verifying the external design, Site mark ups, checking the installation quality whilst the train was working, tamping behind the trains and then Stressing the newly re-laid track as part of the follow up works.
