Duties and Responsibilities• Identify and implement the strategic direction and priorities (in conjunction with senior management) for the continuous improvement of SHEQ management programmes and systems.• Consult with management and assist with the implementation of new or existing SHEQ-related legislation, rules and standards for health and safety awareness including training, site inspections of company and contracted sites.• To undertake audits and inspections on both a programmed and sporadic basis and to report findings to appropriate personnel.• Provide support and expertise to line management in incident investigation and reporting (including dangerous occurrences and occupational diseases).• To investigate any accidents and near misses ensuring that corrective and preventative measures are implemented and all necessary records are updated.• Liaise with HR dept. for initiating and coordinating training plans • To ensure that all current SHEQ accreditations are maintained.• Facilitate all forms of risk assessment e.g. general, manual handling, COSHH, fire prevention and to be the final authority where a specialist response is required in relation to risk assessments performed by others.• Conduct occupational health and safety related surveys e.g. noise, lighting, exposure to chemical substances and formulate associated recommendations.• Produce and coordinate the yearly SHEQ action plan and help develop the strategic SHEQ roadmap going forward.• Monitor the Site “permit-to-work” system to ensure compliance with Company standards.• Assist with all tender/submission documentation.• To be the company liaison for all SHEQ queries on all contracts.

• Ensuring that legal, statutory and other relevant provisions governing or affecting health and safety at work are observed and implemented• Advising management on their duties and responsibilities towards employees, contractors, visitors and the public regarding risks to health and safety; liaising with departments to ensure the efficient coordination and operation of the various health and safety activities.• Recording, investigation and reporting of accidents, incidents, dangerous occurrences and near misses in accordance with the policy and legal requirements.• On-going collation and analysis of health and safety related key performance indicators data.• Preparation and delivery of health & safety training programmes for all groups of employees and trainees.

Assisting the Regional Health and Safety Advisor on RFM managed school sites in the Newcastle area. The role was split between office based administrative duties – primarily using SHE software, and off site activities such as site inspections, delivery of training and assisting the site management teams with the completion of risk assessments.

Assisting safety consultant Neil Curry, on a voluntary basis. This included site safety audits, writing method statements and safe systems of work, risk assessments, production of COSHH assessments, tailor made safety policies and help and advice for achieving CHAS compliancy.
