As one of the earliest employees at InterRISK, I headed up the professional and financial lines team nationally. Assisting in the growth of InterRISK as a credible brand in the corporate insurance market has been an incredibly enjoyable journey.During this time, we have placed many complex programmes for clients, ranging in covers such as IPO, corporate D&O, Warranty & Indemnity, Professional Indemnity, Crime, Cyber, Investment Managers and Statutory Liability. The insurance market has become increasingly wary of risk. This harder placement environment is challenging but is a welcome development for experienced brokers.

Returning to Melbourne to lead a team of professional liability specialists, we started the financial lines journey for many senior members of today's insurance landscape. My role encompassed the delivery of outstanding client outcomes through the development of a group of industry leaders.

Sydney

Transferring to Sydney, I worked in a team of 35 professional liability specialists. Taking over as NSW Manager for this team in 1999, the role included full accountability for financial results and reporting, staff management and business development. As a key segment within Aon's Sydney head-office, the role included regular group presentations.The 2001 collapse of Australia's largest insurer, HIH, proved an enormous challenge for our team and managing this process was an incredible experience - though not one I wish on anyone! The positive is the strong friendships forged through this time.

Transferring to Minet's Perth office, I continued my development in the professional liability area. With the largest insurance broking team in Western Australia, Minet's was a dynamic work environment and placed cover for some of the country's largest firms. During this time, Aon acquired Minet and led to my re-location to Aon's Sydney office.

Commencing within the professional liability field with an international firm was a major change. The Minet client-base comprised major professional firms and industry associations and my role included client service as well as development of group facilities for large associations. Working within a team of highly regarded industry professionals was extremely enjoyable and provided lessons in relationship management that have proved worthwhile throughout my career.
