I have achieved a 2.1 in BSc (Hons) (Level 8) in Pharmaceutical and Forensic analysis in Limerick Institute of Technology. The course entailed 21 hrs of lab practice a week. My final year project was on the determination of sodium, potassium and calcium in orange juice beverages using the atomic absorption spectrometer. I also did a project on the synthesis and analysis of paracetamol. This required synthesising paracetamol using a reflux method and shake flask method. Analysis of the paracetamol was performed by testing for appearance, solubility, melting point, indophenol test, UV-Vis, IR, liquid chromatography, loss on drying and titration assay. Project included preparing SOPs, certificate of analysis, risk assessment etc. As part of my co-op I worked for 6 months in Weatherbys Ireland Ltd. During the duration of this experience I prepared samples – hair and blood – for DNA extraction, and subsequent DNA isolation assays. I am familiar with the various instruments encountered in the laboratory e.g. HPLC, Atomic Absorption Spectroscopy, Gas Liquid Chromatography, UV-Visible Spectrophotometer, Compound Microscope, Stereomicroscope, Genetic Analyser and PCR and Infrared Spectroscopy. I am confident while performing my own tasks in the lab. I have a wide variety of analytical skills which include problem solving capabilities in the lab. I perform at my own initiative and work well with others.
