RAF Brize Norton

Employed at the Defence Movements Training Squadron working independently as a subject matter expert. Responsibilities included management of all aspects of a windows based LAN including maintenance and configuration of Cisco devices, data cabling infrastructure, Windows servers with associated SAN storage. Was also solely responsible for guaranteeing.

Mount Kent, Falkland Islands

• Detached to the Falkland Islands to supervise and conduct preventative and corrective maintenance at a remote radar head. My responsibilities included:
• Reactive and Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) in all aspects of the powerful T101 long range radar system, Secondary Surveillance Radar (SSR), V/UHF ground to air communications, Troy voice communications system.
• Ensured safe working practices were followed especially in hazardous areas containing EHT potentials of 50 KV, AC distribution units with 3 phase and mains voltage plus large moving parts such as antenna actuators.
• Utilised various test equipment during maintenance such as Oscilloscope, logic analyser, power meter, spectrum analyser etc.
• Ensured all test equipment was within date for calibration in accordance with MOD and manufacturer guidelines.
• Ensured radar performance data was uploaded to a document management system for trend analysis.

RAF Cosford

• Employed as an Instructor involved in the largest IT project in Europe. Taught engineers and managers in initial deployment, installation, maintenance and fault rectification of a bespoke virtual server environment..
• Netapp SAN Recovery.
• Server administration covering active directory, DNS, DHCP and group policy configuration.
• Configuration and monitoring of WAN optimisation devices such as Packeteer Packetshaper and Riverbed Steelhead.
• Maintenance and configuration of Cisco routers and switches using NCM, media converters, Intruder Prevention System (IPS) and Meinburg GPS time source.
• Bowman email gateway utilising Microsoft Exchange server.

RAF Wittering

• Detached to RAF Wittering for 4 months to work as a supervisor in an Air Traffic Engineering environment. I was responsible for overseeing the daily tasks of 3 engineers with tasks including:
• Supervised preventative and corrective maintenance of airfield navigation aids including TACAN, Precision Approach Radar and Higher Resolution Direction Finder (HRDF).
• Supervised preventative and corrective maintenance of V/UHF ground to air communications, critical radar links, radar displays, networked flight information systems, voice recording system and Voice Communication.
• Ensured RAF Air Traffic engineering standards and Quality Assurance legislation were adhered to by all tradesmen.
• Ensured all maintenance tasks were documented correctly
• Ensured CAA guidelines were followed where necessary.

RAF Cosford

• Employed as an instructor within No 1 Radio School delivering specialist trade training to new recruits. My key responsibilities included:
• Teaching techniques for manufacture, termination and repair of various types of cables used for RF, digital communications and power whilst utilising engineering drawings.
• Instruction of soldering techniques specifically basic PCB mounting and cable manufacture. All taught to J-Standard specifications.
• Instruction in fault finding techniques and the correct use test equipment specifically oscilloscopes, digital multi-meters and insulation testers.
• Teaching RAF engineering standards and maintenance practices including maintenance recording, Quality Assurance and Electrical safety.
• Ensured lesson content was current and adhered to Defence System Approach to Training (DSAT) standards.

Camp Bastion Airfield

• Deployed as a shift supervisor responsible for overseeing complex preventative and corrective maintenance of equipment within a tactical air traffic environment. Key tasks were as follows:
• Maintenance of Primary Surveillance Radar (PSR), Secondary Surveillance Radar, (SSR), TACAN and V/UHF ground to air communications.
• Maintenance of all associated equipment within the Mobile Visual Control Room (MVCR) and mobile approach room including Drake Voice Communication Control System (VCCS), data/voice recorders, radar displays and.
• Supervised the upkeep and maintenance of all associated cross site links.
• Assisted with preventative and corrective maintenance of Deployed Airfield Ground Lighting.
• Ensured Engineering and Health & Safety standards were adhered to by all tradespersons.

• Employed to manage significant change affecting station ICT networks and communication systems. This included overseeing a large scale project affecting over 2000 users on the stations heavily utilised main network.

• Preventative and corrective maintenance of airfield radar, navigation aids, landing systems and V/UHF ground to air communications.
• Equipment included Watchman PSR, ILS, DRDF, TACAN, PAR, Phillips Mascot Mincoms (VCCS) and all associated consoles and control systems within the air traffic control tower.
• Some fault diagnosis and rectification work conducted to component level.
• Ensured all maintenance was conducted in accordance with legally binding publications with flight safety of paramount importance.
• Utilisation of various test equipment including Oscilloscope, Spectrum analyser, CMS 33, Power meter, signal generator, noise meter, radiation mini monitor etc.

• Deployed as a shift engineer in support of airfield operations conducting critical preventative and corrective maintenance. Key responsibilities included:
• Preventative and corrective maintenance of deployable radar, navigation aids, V/UHF communications and air traffic control systems.
• Airfield based equipment included Watchman PSR, SSR, TACAN, VOR/DME, V/UHF transceivers, Portable Airfield Ground Lighting (PAGL) and associated cross site links.
• Swift and reliable maintenance provided to associated radar displays, Drake VCCS, voice/data recorders and some meteorological systems.
• Proactive monitoring and maintenance of high voltage generators up to 40 KW.
• Planning, preparing and relocating cross site links to accommodate an expanding logistics hub.
