After spending 14 years in both internal and external audit functions of financial institutions, I am a veteran in Credit Risk Management who specializes in using data analytics in identifying risk areas to effectively meet audit objectives. The experiences have provided me with an in-depth knowledge about the banking industry and more importantly, the impact of the economy on businesses. As credit risk is directly affected by global economy and geo-political influences, the dynamic work scope of an auditor (which involves review of portfolio performances, credit reviews on borrowers and understanding on risk management) has equipped me with business acumen necessary to navigate through today’s volatile markets.Furthermore, my career has given me the opportunity to develop understanding of different economies and markets. Having served in both local and foreign banks, my role has always been a regional position which requires oversight (monitoring and analyzing markets) of the various portfolios under the Corporate Bank set-up. Given the regional nature of my work, I am constantly exposed to the Greater China markets and the development of the Greater Bay Area, which has always played a pivotal role in the region’s economic development. The dynamism of this region has sparked my interest when it undergoes various stages of progress in the last decade which coincides with the length of my career.My recent experience in DBS Bank has further value-added to my array of skill-sets. As the Bank pushes towards digitalization, I am deeply involved in the design and implementation of data analytical tools. In recognition of my proficiency in project management, I was placed in the pioneer team to adopt AGILE methodology in performing audits. This methodology outlines a process by which a team can manage a project/audit by defining various milestones and involving constant collaboration with stakeholders with continuous improvement at every milestone. Ever since its adoption, success over this new collaborative and productive manner of auditing has since prompted many other banks to adopt AGILE auditing. My continued efforts in driving efficiency through AGILE auditing has been well-rewarded by subsequent roles as Scrum Master (a leading figure under the methodology) to lead and manage audits in Singapore, Australia, Indonesia, Japan, Los Angeles, Hong Kong and Greater Bay Area.
