With over 30 years’ experience in business I’ve gathered a wide range of commercial skills, including commercial strategy, sales, purchasing and supply chain. Whilst it’s great to be able to turn my hand to pretty much any area of the business I’ve always believed that the real key to my success has simply been that I love what I do and when you’re passionate about something, it shows.My particular expertise has been within the Construction industry where I have been privileged to have worked on projects across numerous different sectors – Education, Health, Private Sector, Local Authority and Housing Associations. Every project is different, and every client is different. I’m sure it is the immense diversity in my day-to-day work that helps keeps my enthusiasm. I know how lucky I am to still enjoy work as much today as I always have.Why am I successful? Well, it’s hard to put your finger on but I think it is a combination of the following:• Developing lasting relationships with clients, suppliers, staff and business partners.• Constantly looking for new opportunities and having fresh ideas.• Knowing the marketplace and nurturing a network of influential contacts.• Refusing to be beaten by the recession.Throughout my career I’ve seen the economy at its most buoyant and at its lowest ebb and I’m proud to say I’ve managed to be successful at both ends of that scale, including:• Increasing turnover from £7.5M to £25M within 5 years during an economic boom.• Developing business from £5.5M to £8M in less than 2 years during recession.I think most people agree that “people buy from people”, which is why I’m a great believer in the power of networking. I’m always keen to connect with like-minded business professionals and see how we might be able to help each other. I'm currently looking for a new opportunity to further my career and would therefore also be keen to hear from recruiters or employers who feel I could add value to their business.
