James Willison is Project and Engagement Manager for the IoT Security Foundation. He oversees a UKRI funded project, Secure Networking by Design which is part of the Digital Security by Design Challenge. TechWorks and the IoTSF have played a vital part in the project working with the University of Oxford and NQuiringMinds to help validate and disseminate a secure onboarding and real time network monitoring solution. James supports the IoTSF ManySecured WG which has played a pivotal role in the project's success. James enjoys working as a part of the TechWorks team, writing blogs, helping plan IoTSF events, including the Annual conference, and has a strong collaborative focus, to ensure our members are kept informed and involved. He is also co chair of the IoTSF SBE working group which is at the forefront of IoT Cybersecurity Thought leadership in the Smart Built Environment with two notable publications and some new forthcoming guidance on procurement.

Worked with the Vidsys team on new projects to promote the capabilities of Converged Security and Information Management in real time. This enables organisations to have a common view of major risks and understand how to respond effectively to cyber physical attacks across the physical and digital domains. In an Internet Age this is increasingly a requirement as the business doesn't know where the attacks are coming from but as Converged Security Centres are established cyber and physical teams can work together using Vidsys and integrated SIEMs including Micro Focus ArcSight and Splunk to identify them and recover quickly.

Post Graduate Security Management Programme

Associate Senior Lecturer: working together with my colleagues at the Loughborough University Business School, I helped the department as a security specialist and supervisor, assessed and mentored Masters students on the Post Graduate Security Management Programme.

I worked personally with Professor Martin Gill at Perpetuity looking at the role of convergence in enabling a more unified response to cyber crime. This involved very valuable discussions on the role of convergence and whether it is the most effective strategy for 21st Century organisations. It focussed on the SRI Cyber Crime and Role of Private Security Report published in September 2016. I was also a judge for the UK OSPAs 2017.

I worked with Griffin Security Solutions on the Loughborough University accredited Higher Certificate in Security Risk Management: Level 7 and worth 20 credits. This was a stand alone certificate but valuable for professionals who wished to take their studies further.

The EU Digital Security Group invited me to review a selection of Horizon 2020 Digital Risk proposals from consortiums of a range of organisations including large corporates to SMEs. The submissions were assessed by a team and we met together in Brussels for one week to discuss and then allocate funding to the 'best' projects.

Member of the ASIS/ANSI Physical Asset Protection Standard Working group representing the Convergence Team with Alessandro Lega. A group of about sixteen information and physical security leaders from across the security industry worked together to propose various converged strategies for this new standard. We are delighted to see many of these have been adopted in the standard which has a comprehensive management approach and emphasises the need to establish, " A cross-discipline and cross-functional risk assessment and management framework that identifies, analyzes, evaluates, and treats all security risks within a singular managed process."

Appointed to this position in January 2008 and developed the role to widen ASIS UK contacts with Information Security Associations. This involved a wide variety of projects including a converged security risk paper with the ISAF. I spoke on behalf of the chapter at leading National and International security conferences, chaired panel discussions and wrote numerous articles on the benefits of converged security. As ASIS UK Convergence Lead James spoke at several security conferences promoting the work of ASIS and the ISAF and emphasised the need for security leaders from all areas of the industry to work more closely together.In March 2009 the AESRM published a white paper he authored entitled, "Security Convergence and Enterprise Risk Management". The work has now developed in Europe and I have just been asked to represent the European intiative on a new ASIS commission on Information Security Management which reports direct to the Board of ASIS International. Alan Jenkins is now developing the convergence work in the UK.
