It ran from 1992 to 2016.I was the treasurer of the Newcastle University Hitch Society for the academic year 2013-2014. This was a rewarding and fun role for me, and involved keeping the accounts, organising socials, sending out emails, and working as part of a team of two. Newcastle's Hitch Society worked in collaboration with the charity Link Community Development, for which I was an official charity ‘hitch representative’, helping to organise an annual hitch-hike, with participants hitch-hiking to Croatia or Morocco (their choice) for the Charity. I attended both of the training sessions that the Charity provided for its hitch representatives. Of the 24 participating universities, Newcastle recruited the second highest number of students to partake in the event, at 26, and raised the highest amount of money for the Charity, at £9,722.
