Hello! I'm James, an analytics engineer with a knack for solving unique problems and understanding the needs of business stakeholders.I've been lucky to work on a variety of projects in my career but my specializations are still Python and SQL. In my previous position I built and scheduled Python ETL jobs on a local server to write to on-prem Oracle databases; later these processes came to live in cloud services like AWS, Databricks and Snowflake. This experience gave me a strong foundation in Python and SQL and a comfort working in or outside a cloud environment.For most of my career I worked in a global analytics team which serviced other groups at the business by supplying them with data solutions tailored to their distinct needs. These solutions included data pipelines, dashboards, web applications and forecasts. Working with different groups and responding to their priorities honed my ability to communicate with both technical and non-technical colleagues in a professional setting and understand their what their problems are.Another benefit of the varied projects I worked on was being able to gain experience in varied topics. While much of my work was focused on designing data structures and ETL processes, I was also chosen to build and maintain internal web applications, investigate potential new tech solutions, train and support other employees on technical topics, and modernize legacy processes.I love the technical details of what I do, in particular I have a strong passion for the minutia of SQL programming. I've been known to dig deep into documentation to discover new SQL conventions and mechanics and I've always had a thirst to challenge myself with the most complex SQL assignments available.That being said, what really drives me is people and solutions. Nothing brings me more gratification than being able to see the real world impact of my work, however small. My true focus working on a project is the person requesting it and their needs; I pride myself on being somebody who can be truly relied upon to deliver an effective and reasonable solution in a warm and timely manner. In my experience most teams have at least one person who can always be counted on no matter what, and do it with a smile. In addition to being valuable to the business these people contribute greatly to the peace of mind of everyone around them, and I strive to be one of these people.
