I remain of the view that incidents are unplanned investments in reliability and I ensured we made the most of these investments to improve the teams shared model of how it all worked. Working with a variety of clients to help deliver the right thing faster and cheaper.I've helped my clients to:- migrate their Domain Name System (DNS) and Content Delivery Network (CDN) services, resulting in a faster web experience for their customers, and an associated significant uplift in revenue.- migrated from their old data centres to AWS. This was done in a little over 6 months. Introducing practices like infrastructure as code and solid deployment pipelines to help us go faster and safer. I also rewrote a core system service to provide a major data migration. The client was left with a faster site that they had a better idea of how to operate. They also had new potential to reduce costs using cloud practices such as scaling on demand. The project was summarised by the client as "the best execution I've ever seen, and I've seen a few of these"- lead conversations and decision-making around developing a shared understanding of what good looks like for monitoring and observability. Helped the client to add those common supporting services to their infrastructure- provide training in incident response handling and continuous improvement. Parts of this included running Game Days to validate that the benefits would continue after I had left

Helping digital at M&S safely, sustainably deliver business value at internet speed. This covered a few areas:1. Building things. I was responsible for: ● reviewing Continuous Integration and how to user version control better ● improving our software development and testing practices ● reducing the time-to-market with a better deployment pipeline2. I learned some things at M&S, but was also able to introduce new things, including: ● introducing modern web operations as defined by Etsy and other leading proponents ● mature organisational practices ● a strong configuration management mentality of everything as code (infrastructure, software-defined networks, monitoring rules etc) ● making increasing use of public cloud hosting to deliver experiences for our customers that were better, whilst still being faster to market and cheaper for M&S to run3.
