James is Head of Corporate Responsibility at Trafigura. With a turnover of over USD150 billion, Trafigura is one of the world’s leading physical commodities trading and logistics groups. The company manages every process involved in the sourcing and trading of crude oil, petroleum products, metals and minerals.In 2010, James joined Trafigura in order to help establish a Corporate Affairs department. Areas of focus at the present day include developing and driving the Group’s responsibility and transparency policies worldwide, for ensuring that supply chain and operating impacts are managed responsibly, and for the Group's growing stakeholder engagement programme.James is a Board member of the Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative or 'EITI'. James read Management and Organisation Studies at Lancaster University before joining De Beers as a management trainee in 2001. Responsibilities at De Beers centered on the protection and promotion of the company's business interests and reputation. James represented De Beers in Kimberley Process negotiations and was a key project member of the Diamond Development Initiative in its early formation working in Sierra Leone, Ghana and Tanzania.
