Japan was considered a mature market for Dyson and my remit was to reengineer the commercial strategies and to identify, build and train the financial planning, finance and operations functions whilst delivering opportunities and strategies that would double Japan’s profit within 3 years. Acting as an agent of change, I was able to deliver commercial strategies and tactics that delivered 50%+ p.a growth. Within 18 months Dyson grew from 6th largest floorcare supplier to 1st and within 2 years the goal of doubling the business was achieved and Japan became Dyson’s largest subsidiary.In addition, during this time I also planned and led Japan’s first major recall, which required me to establish a 100-person call centre, a 50-person logistics centre and a 300+ person rework facility within 3 weeks to ensure no negative impact to the brand.

During my time at Dyson Australia the annual turnover grew over 7 fold to generate in excess of $220 million with a compound annual growth in excess of 20% p.a. and it also became the largest floor care brand with market share increasing to over 50%. I became known globally within Dyson for my ability to develop strategies to deliver improvements and exploit opportunities that had significant impact on the business. My passion, perseverance, energy, can do attitude together with my leadership skills saw me take on additional roles and responsibilities until my remit encompassed Finance, IT, Demand Planning, Logistics, Customer Fulfilment, Service, Customer Care, Leading B2B Division and Legal. GM for the B2B division for 5 years which saw me launch and managing all aspects of the Commercial division’s growth including sales, marketing and PR strategy. The Commercial division for Australia and New Zealand, which generated a profit within 3 months, grew by over 30%+ per year. I regularly delivered productivity improvements including restructuring operations and IT systems to deliver cost avoidance of over $10m annually by 2013 against an annual CPI headwind of 2-3%.
