Originally through the technology partnership between Orange Jellyfish and Mindstep, appointed CTO to oversee the technical direction of the business. Later, took on the role full time to build a best-in-class engineering team.Some highlights of the role include:- Architected a performant and highly scalable event-driven serverless system that has grown to support over 100,000 users.- Supported adherence to regulatory requirements to achieve MHRA (UKCA) classification as a medical device.- Hired an engineering team from the ground up to a current peak of 6 permanent full-time members.

orangejellyfish is a London-based consultancy with a passion for JavaScript, open source software and the cloud. Some of our recent enterprise clients include The Economist, UBS, giffgaff and Tesco. We also work with a range of early-stage startups, several of which have achieved successful funding rounds. We have recently developed full-stack web applications, static websites, native mobile apps and more. Some of the technologies we're currently enjoying include Node.js, React, React Native, SwiftUI and Serverless.

At Tesco I was a senior engineer in a high profile team focussed on the modernisation of essential parts of the web estate such as login and registration. I was instrumental in an organisation-wide push towards modern web technologies such as Node.js and React and helped drive internal open-source efforts.I was heavily involved in growing applications to the scale required for a business the size of Tesco. I learned a lot about building, running and supporting Node.js applications in AWS at scale and for high availability, with the help of technologies such as Terraform and Ansible.

At Mammal my focus was on full-stack JavaScript development, primarily with Node.js, CouchDB and AngularJS. As the first senior engineer in the company I have introduced various ideas and best practices to help our workflow, including code reviews and style guides. I led a big push towards ES2015 (ES6) in as much of our code as possible, using Babel for transpilation.

At Capita I led the introduction of a new era of front-end development, including the redevelopment of legacy apps, with a major focus on AngularJS and RESTful back-end services. I put a lot of work into ensuring the development process runs smoothly, taking advantage of tools such as Grunt, JSHint, Protractor (for integration testing) and Jasmine (for unit testing).

At Global Personals (now Venntro) I worked in a small and very talented UX team as a senior JavaScript developer, focused mainly on the front-end with AngularJS but also with exposure to server-side Node.js code. I am largely responsible for improving front-end tooling and streamlining the JavaScript development process, having introduced and maintained automated usage of JSHint and unit test runners with Grunt.I was a regular contributor to the development team blog and various company-backed open source projects.

Following the success of the managed service Sabio provided to Homeserve (see previous position on my profile), the small team I was part of was brought in-house to continue in the same roles. I was largely responsible for the rewriting of the application, in a much more modular fashion that would be easier to extend and improve in the future, and was instrumental in migrating away from Subversion to a more effective distributed version control system, Mercurial.

At Sabio I was part of a small managed service working with Homeserve PLC to develop and maintain the front end of an enterprise scale web application used by hundreds of contact centre agents. Early in my time here I helped pioneer the use of jQuery to decrease development times and improve the user experience of the agents.
