At Skuid, I administered, monitored, and improved Skuid’s “roll your own” Kubernetes clusters on AWS, using infrastructure as code to deploy all required cloud assets. I assisted in the migration to Rancher managed Kubernetes clusters. I collaborated with development team on CI/CD solutions. Managed and improved Jenkins, Drone, and Spinnaker deployments, as well as jobs and pipelines.I was able to vastly improve an internal automation tool written in Go, working with developers to ensure it met their needs, and bringing the “just make it work” code in line with best practices for a Go project.Throughout my time at Skuid, I assisted development, QA, and internal solutions teams through support and training, encouraging a “self-service” model of empowering teams to adopt and implement DevOps practices and methodologies on their own.

I assisted clients in complex cloud migrations, from on-prem to AWS, utilizing infrastructure as code and container orchestration to codify and automate cumbersome operations and development tasks. I modernized and containerized clients' legacy, enterprise software.As BNL’s first ever DevOps engineer, I led teams to create various proof of concept DevOps projects, teaching DevOps methodology to fellow employees and evangelizing to management and our clients.

In the past year, I've been given the opportunity to move beyond my initial, internal system administration role into something more like a DevOps Engineer on my current project: The National Collaborative for Bio-Preparedness https://www.bioprep.us). The BNL team is working to implement Infrastructure as Code, configuration management, service oriented architecture, containerized deployments with Docker, and the implementation of a container scheduler (HashiCorp's Nomad). It's exciting, fascinating work.Additionally, I've had to pick up Python for the project and now have two system daemons in production on the project: an ETL intake daemon, and a custom system monitoring daemon which exposes an HTTP API and is deployed in a Docker container.Some other things I've done on this project: Nginx ssl/tls configuration, pivotal tc server troubleshooting, MongoDB, Consul service discovery, MariaDB Galera Cluster, SolrCloud, OSSEC intrustion detection, Ansible provisioning. I also migrated the project from a private, VMware based cloud to Amazon Web Services (AWS).

As a Life Skills Counselor, I was responsible for teaching the clients various skills such as cooking, cleaning, finance, and computer skills. I also helped plan and assisted with group therapy sessions. Additionally, I scheduled and monitored the residential client phone calls, serving as a frequent point of contact with parents and guardians, during a difficult and stressful time in their lives.

As field director for a Congressional campaign, I managed a staff of 6 to meet the voter contact goals we set through recruiting and organizing volunteers. Other duties included: writing press releases, research, special projects, maintaining the campaign website, helping with social media (when needed), fundraising, etc.

Ran the store, managed inventory, interacted with customers.

As a specialist, I fielded calls to the UTM Computer Help Desk, helping callers with troubleshooting common computer problems. From virus/malware infections, to e-mail client set up, to network trouble I handled all types of computer problems. I was also the resident 'Mac guy'.

Due to budget and staffing issues, I was responsible for what were two positions in past: Managing Editor & News Editor. As Managing Editor, I worked with our Executive Editor to make key decisions affecting the direction of The Pacer and what type of stories would be covered. I also served as part of the editorial board: making decisions about what will be editorialized and often writing the editorial.As News Editor, I was responsible for the editing and layout of the News Section as well as generating a budget of stories each week for our writers to cover. I also covered the general campus news beat and handled enterprise and investigative stories.

As the Asst. News Editor, I was responsible for covering the general campus news beat as well as page layout and design. I also helped create a new section: The Technophile. The Technophile covers technology news affecting students.

In the mornings, I taught a small boat sailing course to groups of boys and girls age 8 to 16. In the afternoons I worked as a lifeguard at either the camp waterfront or pool.

As the asst. sailing director. I taught basic and advanced racing tactics courses in sailing for boys aged 10-17. Class sizes varied from 15 to 45. I, along with the director, was responsible for the children's instruction and their safety on the water. In addition to my activity responsibilities, I supervised a cabin of 18-20 age 13 boys.

Writing entertainment and general campus news stories. Also, graphic design, photography and general office work.

I worked as a lifeguard at the University pool.

I managed a team of six other lifeguards where I was responsible for the daily operations of the waterfront at the camp as well as the safety of boys from age 12-18. Also, I taught several classes from sailing, swimming, canoeing, CPR and basic first aid and a lifeguard certification class.

I designed the Web site for Kilgore Flares company, working with the management to design a site to fit the needs of the company.

I spent this summer working as an archery instructor where I managed the archery range, taught the archery merit badge and ensured the safety of campers on the range/in my class. Also, in the afternoons, I volunteered my time as a C.O.P.E. (high ropes course) instructor.
