About James Curran

I am a foreign affairs and strategic policy analyst with a background in public policy and intelligence. My career has been built on delivering high level analysis and advice to policymakers - in the Department of Prime Minister and Cabinet and the Office of National Assessments - and contributing to the debate over Australia’s place in the world, especially its relations with the United States and China. My analysis appears in some of the leading publications in Australia and globally. I have a fortnightly column on foreign affairs in the Australian Financial Review and have been published in leading foreign affairs journals in the US such as The National Interest. My latest book, Australia's China Odyssey: From Euphoria to Fear is a study of the Australia-China relationship from 1972 to the present and will be published in August this year by NewSouth Press. An historian by training, my strong international experience in higher education includes distinguished appointments. I have been the Chair of Australian History at University College Dublin, Ireland and the US Alliance Fulbright Scholar at Georgetown University, Washington DC.
