James is a practiced builder, creative thinker and problem solver. Having worked in Chicago, Aspen and San Francisco, James has exposure to a multitude of regional construction practices and a diverse portfolio of building scales and project types. In over 30 years of practice he has worked for large firms and built a successful design-build practice creating unique spaces, exposing concrete, fabricating custom components from steel and wood, innovating on building skin, experimenting on MEP systems and directly importing millwork, furnishings and other materials from Europe.His unique ‘totalist’ skillset extends from a great design ability, to advanced computer modeling, to hands-on construction in the truest sense of the term design-builder. In practice he has a vast amount of experience preparing feasibility studies, developing proforma, design and documenting construction, budget, scheduling and managing construction and subcontractors. A true people-person, James connects with clients with a unique ability to simplify issues on design, budget and construction. He also has a long-standing history of mentoring staff and engaging with subcontractors to find the best means and methods of getting things done.
