Introducing Aerogen Pharma Ltd.! We are a US based specialty pharmaceutical company with a mission to develop inhaled drug/biologic and device combination that will transform the standard of care for acute and critically ill patients. A respiratory therapist by training, I developed an interest in why medical aerosols labeled for ambulatory patients, did not appear to have the same effects in the acute care environment. After 14 years as Technical Director for Respiratory Care at UCSF my interest in research led me to a dual appointment as Research Associate and Administrative Analyst, Department of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine,Edward Hines Jr Veterans Administration Hospital and Loyola University of Chicago Stritch School of Medicine where I created and ran the aerosol research lab under the tutelage of Dr. Rajiv Dhand. Our work on aerosol delivery in critical care led to multiple publications in the Blue Journal on aerosol administration to ventilated patients. Jim has taken an active interest in clinical applications of aerosols over the last four decades, resulting in publication of > 118 original peer reviewed articles, chapters and text books. He has served as participating author in the five AARC Clinical Practice Guidelines on Aerosols and the more recent International Consensus Conference on Aerosols and Delivery Devices. His research interests range from aerosol delivery during mechanical ventilation to proper device selection and training for patients at home. For the past 20 years, working with industry to develop better methods of aerosol delivery as well as new drug and drug/device combinations for treatment acute and criticaly ill patients including preterm infants.
