Throughout a significant portion of my life, I had always been set on pursuing a degree and a career in the engineering industry. Mathematics had been my strong suit since elementary school, so it was only natural that I was recommended to look into engineering. I was good at it and I liked it "enough", so why not give it a shot? I came to The Pennsylvania State University with the intent to follow what I thought was my dream, a future job in engineering. However, I was met with the rude awaking that I really didn't like what I was doing; in fact, I actually hated it.In the fall semester of my junior year, I had enough. I was tired of going to classes I couldn't stand and completing work that I had no interest in anymore. It was a bitter-sweet feeling changing majors, but I knew it needed to be done. Through a friend, I found out about the major "Human-Centered Design and Development" (HCDD) within the College of IST here at Penn State. This had changed everything.Since switching into the HCDD major, I feel like I found my purpose here at school. Not only have the classes been fun and engaging, but all I want to do is learn more about my field. I now spend chunks of my free time learning about UX and UI designs not because I like it "enough", but because I love it. I plan on making the world a better place one design at a time.
