Sapling Learning produced effective science online learning solutions used by instructors and students in higher education and high school. Managed the company to achieve over 100% average annual revenue growth over 4 years. Built a management team and operationalized company so it was capable of growing to 86 employees across 5 departments in 3 years. Led market strategy for disrupting and changing the education market in 3 key areas: separating digital problem-solving learning solutions from textbook bundles, innovative customer partnership and support models, and decreasing costs to students through the use of OER and used textbook bundles. Managed a business model transition from software licensing and content services to a successful SaaS educational software company. Raised over $3.5M in capital from a diverse funding sources, including Federal Small Business Administration (SBA) loans, bridge loans, angel investors, and institutional venture capital. Launched 11 higher education and 7 high school products targeting course areas in chemistry, physics, economics, engineering, and biology. Served as the primary sales lead for key early university sales, built the early sales group, and installed key sales leadership. Led business development initiatives that contracted key partnerships with publishing companies and providers of open education resources (OER). Responsible for the launch of Sapling Learning’s high school business which brought in over $1MM in revenue in its first year. Established Sapling Learning as an EdTech business and thought leader by speaking at numerous EdTech and STEM education industry conferences, and through being recognized as #4 on the Austin Fast 50 startup companies.Managed the sale of Sapling Learning to Macmillan New Ventures in 2012, providing an excellent return for investors.
