Jim Clark is a serial entrepreneur, strategy consultant, and catalyst. Prior to founding The Future of Employment & Income Institute (in 2024) and the Global Partnership for Civic Engagement (in 2020), Clark was best known as the Founder/CEO (1997-2021) of the World Technology Network (WTN), a global association of 1,500+ of the world’s top innovators, peer-elected via the annual World Technology Awards in science, technology, and related fields. Partnered with Fortune, TIME, The Economist, CNN, Science, Nature, NYSE, Microsoft, Nasdaq, Salesforce, among many others, the WTN convened annual World Technology Summits, as well as others (i.e., World Energy Technologies Summits and the World Summit on Technological Unemployment). Through the WTN, he was also co-convener/lead of the International Congress for the Governance of Artificial Intelligence (ICGAI, 2018-2021). Clark’s first venture, ACCESS: Networking in the Public Interest, founded 1986, was the first national, nonprofit jobs clearinghouse. Based at the Harvard Kennedy School (appointed to the faculty at age 22), with satellite offices at UC/Berkeley, University of Chicago, and Duke, and receiving philanthropic support from many of America’s leading foundations, ACCESS reached over 150,000 jobseekers a year, including in partnership with the Wall Street Journal. ACCESS was also one of the first online companies in the world, piggybacking on donated access to Apple’s earliest online technology.Clark next served as Director for the Non-Profit Sector & National Service for the Clinton/Gore Presidential campaign (1992), as well as co-convener of the Presidential Transition Roundtable Series, on issues ranging from high-tech entrepreneurship, homelessness, to Northern Ireland. In 1993, he started one of first Internet companies to bring the “make a difference” world online, given authority to create groundbreaking social impact services for start-up company, America Online (AOL). Clark was named by New York magazine (1995) as one of the “New Media Elite." Appointed during the 2016 presidential campaign to lead the Democratic Party’s National Task Force for America’s Future, since then he’s started various pro-democracy efforts, incl. the New Voter Army (2018) and Democracy Dinners (2022) focused on driving voter registration.In late 2019, in a high-level meeting held at the UN Office for Partnerships, he launched as a long-term/slow-build venture the non-profit organization, The Global Partnership for Civic Engagement.In early 2024, he launched The Future of Employment & Income Institute.

Co-Convener/Co-OrganizerInternational Congress For The Governance Of Artificial Intelligence (Icgai) Jul 2018 - Aug 2021ICGAI, a high-level virtual speaker/panel/planning workshop series, co-organized by me and award-winning technology ethicist and author, Wendell Wallach, based on his ideas developed over many years -- to bring together representatives of governments, industry, international organizations, universities, research centers, leaders of underserved nations and communities, and other stakeholders in the AI space. ICGAI went beyond principles and individual policy proposals to focus on initial steps towards putting in place international mechanisms for the governance of AI. ICGAI was a collaborative initiative directed at catalyzing an agile and comprehensive governance framework for artificial intelligence. (ICGAI was originally scheduled to occur as a three-day, in-person conference in April, 2020, in Prague, Czech Republic, but evolved into a virtual structure due to the global pandemic). FounderThe New Voter Army Jun 2018 - Nov 2018The New Voter Army was a voter registration campaign created in the lead-up to the 2018 mid-term US elections built around a website that made it easy for eligible US voters to check their voter registration status, register to vote online (in the states where applicable) or receive instructions on how to register offline by mail (in the states where applicable) or in person, and, most importantly, to easily share the website and community with friends/other connections on the primary social media sites, as well as to volunteer to recruit teams of others to do the same (in a sort of walk-a-thon model). And, using the same approach, those in the overall network could also be contacted to work their personal networks to turn out the vote on election day. Fast Company magazine cited the New Voter Army as a new breed of voter registration and get-out-the-vote (GOTV) initiatives that could change the tide of an election.
