I lead the Knowledge & Learning Engineering Team. We’re responsible for the delivery of the BBC Bitesize product on Web and Mobile. This involves promoting and ensuring best practise (TDD, BDD, Continuous Delivery, Public Cloud, Agile Delivery) and carrying out Technical Design for high performance and high traffic applications.I was responsible for the design and implementation of the content and personalisation APIs that power the Bitesize mobile application, working with a third party to ensure on time delivery as well as compatibility with BBC shared and technologies.I work closely with Product and Project managers to ensure on time delivery of solutions and with our UX team to ensure that the products we deliver are to the highest quality.

After joining as Senior Web Developer I was promoted firstly to Lead Developer and then to Development & Support Manager. I was responsible for bringing robust development practices to STV and promoting engineering excellence within the development team. I led the redesign of the hosting infrastructure and was responsible for the architectural design and implementation of the PHP applications that replaced the legacy ColdFusion platform.I worked on the company’s highest profile projects - including STV Local, STV Player and the News / Sport / Entertainment sites - helping the network grow from 5,000 visitors a day to over 500,000 visitors a day. This included development of the responsive web sites, mobile optimised sites and applications (for iOS, Android and TV platforms). As well as being line manager for a development team of 10 - providing mentoring, technical direction and support - I worked with the Product Management team and stakeholders across the company to plan the technical requirements for new products and help them understand the capabilities of digital technology.
