My role at Western Power was to develop and implement appropriate and effective community engagement plans and communications for transmission and distribution infrastructure projects.My highlights included:- Creating and successfully implementing Western Power’s internal Guideline for the community engagement process for infrastructure projects funded by external customers. This guideline describes the processes that Western Power’s Community Engagement team will deliver with the aim of improving both internal and external stakeholders’ understanding of the community engagement requirements and expectations for each project, and offers a suite of community engagement tools and templates for our customers to use. This has resulted in achieving a well-defined engagement process for our customers to follow and allowing us to develop closer working relationships, and enabled me to build stronger relationships with internal project team members, becoming the internal contact for community engagement advice on customer funded projects.- Managing the community engagement on the one of Western Power's largest transmission powerline projects to date;- Developing and undertaking the community engagement plans for upgrades of a number of metropolitan and regional electricity substation sites, to ensure our stakeholders and community members are consulted on the layout, external design, and construction timeframes of the projects;- Organising proactive community engagement events in regional areas to promote the work Western Power is doing to improve reliability of the area’s power supply; and- Drafting community engagement briefs for external customer projects involving the relocation and undergrounding of Western Power assets.
