Service Manager
Starting at this company I was stationed in the workshop for a year, this included building and repairing computers, running maintenance such as Virus scans on these computers. Installing and configuring Windows XP Professional, Windows 2000, Windows Server 2003 and Windows Small Business Server 2003. After learning skills in the workshop I progressed into Technical Support. This included phone support to our customer base, many times this would also include using remote support tools. Platforms I was supporting would be mostly Microsoft Operating Systems, Veritas BackupExec, Sophos Anti-Virus, Panda Anti-Virus and Microsoft Office.I progressed to Field Support Engineer, my main role was to visit sites and solve problems that could not be solved over the phone. This also included installing new equipment into customer sites, which would consist of PC’s, Printers, Servers and network infrastructure devices. I soon progressed to be the main installer of all new networks. This also allowed me to work with networks, especially in areas such as VPN, DNS, AD and Group Policy. During this time I also initiated a maintenance procedure for company’s networks and servers, which was rolled out to the company; this made the company proactive instead of reactive. This role required a high level of customer service due to being in contact with customers constantly. With the company growing a first tier of management was needed. Due to my skills and progression through the company I was chosen for this post. I managed the SES department which consisted of 3 engineers including myself. My roles now include reporting back to senior management any problems and current progress in the department, ensuring stock is ordered on time for installs, ensuring jobs are logged correctly and completed on time and ensuring management of servers is maintained. I also ensure that the customers are kept updated with their issue’s and the engineer works with them through the problem.
