What does JavaScript, SQL, NoSQL, API, HTML and CSS and I have in common? We are quickly becoming best friends. As I sat in a hot office in Haiti, registering children for school, my mind quickly thought of ways we could make this process much faster. Using my experience with Excell, I was able to formulate a spreadsheet to keep track of the students. Not long after that we transferred our spreadsheets to an Access database. That year we sponsored 240 students, an increase of 140 from several years before.Working with juveniles in the Elkhart County Detention Center I was thrilled to be able to dive deep into Excell 'magic' and design interactive forms for the intake process including suicide and risk assessments. Using self-taught HTML skills, I imported these to our online resident record system QUEST. I have worked with Vine Ministry for many years. Over 20 years ago, I designed their website using FrontPage then later migrated it to WordPress. These experiences gave me an appetite for the underlying workings of JavaScript, SQL, HTML, CSS, SQL, and NoSQL.For me, I have jumped fully into JavaScript, SQL, HTML, CSS, and AWS, the technologies that will allow us to connect the world. In so doing, empowering the powerless, with tools that will give their communities a seat at the world's table.
