I am currently assigned to our Patrol Division where I am responsible for the direct supervision of police personnel. My primary function is to ensure department employees are properly equipped and utilized in the field so that they can effectively respond to our community's needs. I provide supervisory accountability to all department personnel and ensure that field investigations are conducted thoroughly and documented properly. I conduct daily briefings, manage employee schedules/payroll and ensure proper staffing and deployment. I monitor department personnel in the performance of their duties, provide guidance, training and support, oversee critical incidents, review police reports and handle employee complaints. I am also a Team Leader on our Crisis Negotiations, Dignitary Protection, Crowd Management and Recruitment and Mentorship Teams and I am the Lead Instructor for the Community Police Academy. As the Team Leader on those various teams, I am responsible for the overall supervision of those team members during the performance of their duties. I coordinate and supervise team trainings and operations and I ensure that my team members have the proper support, resources and accountability to achieve their goals effectively. And as the Lead Instructor for the Community Police Academy, I oversee the program and ensure that our community outreach efforts are effectively met. I conduct student background checks and coordinate with the various instructors to develop presentations that are informative and appropriate for our community members. I hold Advanced Peace Officer and Supervisory certificates issued by the California Peace Officer Standards and Training Commission and have received Advanced Officer Training in the areas of homicide, domestic violence, child abuse and sexual assault investigations, narcotics/alcohol and weapons violations, mental illness, police supervision and Crisis Negotiation Team leadership.

In addition to handling emergency calls for service, my primary function was to mentor new officers, provide them with training and supervision and evaluate their performance. Using a structured and systematic approach to adult learning, I supervised new officers and taught them how to apply their academy education to the real-world environment through instruction and hands-on training. By doing so, I taught them the skills to become successful patrol officers in a safe, effective and professional manner that is consistent with our core values.

As a Detective with the Crimes against Persons Unit, I was responsible for the criminal investigations of violent crimes against persons. I conducted hundreds of criminal and civil investigations, interviewed witnesses and victims, interrogated suspects, prepared complete criminal cases for vigorous prosecution by the District Attorney’s Office and worked with involved parties, outside agencies and community members to effectively solve problems in a creative manner.I have investigated crimes such as homicides, sexual assaults, domestic violence, child abuse, robberies, burglaries, arson, fraud and other crimes against persons and property. I have worked with numerous federal, state and regional task forces such as the Chris Dorner Task Force, FBI Bank Robbery Apprehension Team, State Alcohol and Beverage Control and the Orange County Fusion Center. I have extradited criminals back to Orange County to stand trial and have participated in the successful prosecution of hundreds of criminal cases. I was elected to the Board of Directors for the California Burglary and Theft Investigators Association in 2009. As a Board Member/Treasurer, I was responsible for the overall fiscal health of the Association and for the organization of monthly meetings and yearly training symposiums from 2009 to 2011.

As a Patrol Officer, my fundamental duty was to preserve the peace, uphold the law with fairness and provide quality service to the residents of the City of Irvine. I responded to “911” calls for service, conducted preliminary criminal investigations, provided traffic enforcement and acted as a public servant liaison to the community.
