Leading the City of Mansfield’s Information Technology Department is a satisfying career as every facet of the organization is dynamic. The IT department assists all Elected Officials, which comprises of 25+ departments and divisions and 450+ staff members. The management role consists of helping the elected officials, and their Department Heads, realize their goals and objectives for the year. This consists of providing general technical support to keep the staff operational, planning and implementing large scale projects, and maintaining the infrastructure as a whole.Noteworthy Achievements:• Virtualized a datacenter of 35+ servers down to 4 to capitalize on high availability failover, load balancing, replication, and complete redundancy. The design allows for not only power failure and network device failure (switch or NIC), but a complete server can fail with no downtime. This also reduced management time and saved the citizens over $150,000 for server replacement costs.• Designed two complete backup datacenters that can support a full compromise of the primary datacenter. The primary backup datacenter resides at a location that is not only on a separate power grid, but on a separate data backbone as well. It also houses servers that perform a complete replication of the primary datacenter, the phone system, and soon the 9-1-1 dispatch center. The secondary backup datacenter is responsible for backing up the main backup datacenter.• Lead complete replacement of an end-of-life Nortel phone system with a ShoreTel VoIP phone system. The new system provides redundancy using a backup headquarters server (DVS server), in our backup datacenter, as well as failover voice switches.• Lead an infrastructure hardening project that consisted of redundant fiber to 13 of the city’s locations, complete core switch/router upgrades that provides a gigabit backbone, and enterprise grade security appliances.
