Team Lead- 5 RA's & 1 Lab Tech.- Coordinate with the director and other 2 Team Leads to run Olix's SD Lab.- Purify siRNA oligos to support Olix's platform technology R&D.- Oligonucleotide Purification SME - AX & RP HPLC (WT, 2' modified, 5' or 3' conjugated siRNA). - Oligo dT Affinity HPLC (mRNA transcripts). - Oligo Purification Cartridge (OPC). - Impurity root cause analysis.Process Development- Install and develop SOPs for new equipment (HPLC, Lyo, Diafiltration etc...).- HPLC/OPC method development and optimization.- Design and implement new processes.Lab Safety Officer- Oversee SD lab safety practices and conduct quarterly internal audits.Key Projects:Processing Team Expansion- Hiring, training and building the Processing Team has been a primary focus since being promoted to Team Lead.- Throughput, consistency, and employee retention have all increased during my tenure.- Expanded team from 3 to 7 members.- Designed and built out a new 3 suite lab.High-throughput automated siRNA purification platform- Designed and implemented an automated OPC purification process with a Hamilton Microlab Starlet.- >99% purification success rate with >4,000 sequences shipped.- Developed both the chemistry and software for this process (>1,500 lines of code).- Single operator may purify up to 192 sequences per day vs ~30 by hand.QMS Implementation & Duplex Manufacturing- Core team member for the design and implementation of an ISO9001 based QMS for non-GMP manufacturing activities.- Standardized R&D processes, wrote a QMS compliant system of SOPs and Batch Records for mmol scale duplex manufacturing.- Produced 15g of siRNA Duplex to be used in the formulation of Olix's novel 'cosmeceutical' product for androgenetic hair loss.3D Printing- Design and make custom items for lab.Ex. Polypropylene gasket for 'SPOTBOX' C&D reaction vessel (>100 uses vs single use original).

Chemists in the ELISA controls group are primarily responsible for manufacturing antibody positive and negative controls for the Quanta-Lite autoimmune diagnostic assay product line. Our primary responsibility is production and testing of bulk 'antibody positive serum' controls and ELISA conjugates for a wide array of assays.

The R&D Bloodlab at Quidel is responsible for helping develop and test the Triage line of diagnostic instruments and fluorescent immunoassay chips.

As a student at SEA I worked with a research partner to propose, develop and conduct a field study into the effects of pH and alkalinity on phytoplankton communities across the Subtropical North Atlantic. Algae are one of the most fundamental and important groups of organisms on the planet. Despite this,  there is little consensus on what effects climate change and ocean acidification will have on them. Our research primarily aimed to look for correlations between pH, alkalinity, phytoplankton abundance and community composition, while also creating a baseline data set for future cruises along the same transect to develop a longitudinal study. Sampling for this project consisted of twice daily science stations where we collected surface water for pH, alkalinity and size fractionated chlorophyll analysis as well as daily net tows to collect samples for community composition analysis. In addition to sampling for my own project I also aided in the collection and analysis of my shipmates' projects, routinely conducting CTD/Hydro-carousel casts, net tows and zooplankton analyses from the research vessel SSV Corwith Cramer. Following the completion of my semester abroad, and upon returning to USD, I spent an additional semester refining my analyses and creating a poster to present at our university research symposium.

Working with Education Fellows and teachers to teach a curriculum of marine science based classes to underprivileged children in the City Heights community of San Diego. I worked in the class room as well as on field trips with large groups of 3-5th grade children teaching them the basics of science and marine biology but mainly trying to instill an interest and spark of curiosity to pursue science to a further degree.
