With over 20 years of experience in actuarial and investment consulting, James began his career at Aon Consulting. His responsibilities there included pension scheme consultancy, valuation and benefit costing, along with maintaining day-to-day contact with clients and pension scheme administrators.James joined Cartwright in 2005. In his actuarial role, he provides technical support to the directors, collaborating closely with them to offer a comprehensive range of actuarial services to Occupational Pension Schemes. He works with a diverse portfolio of corporate clients, with number of members ranging from a handful to over 5,000 and fund values from £1 million to £750 million. His duties encompass all aspects of actuarial work related to defined benefit schemes, including triennial and interim actuarial valuations, PPF and solvency valuations, actuarial scheme factor advice, and scheme restructure costings.In his investment role, James plays an important role in shaping the firm’s investment advisory services. Working closely with the Director of Investment Consulting, he supports all key aspects of providing comprehensive investment advice. His expertise includes conducting thorough investment strategy reviews to ensure clients' portfolios align with their financial goals and risk tolerance. James performs in-depth risk assessments of portfolios, identifying potential vulnerabilities and recommending adjustments to optimize performance. He is happy conducting manager selection exercises, evaluating and selecting investment managers who demonstrate superior performance and strategic alignment with clients' objectives. Additionally, James oversees asset transition management for his clients, ensuring smooth and efficient transitions of assets during changes in investment strategies or managers. His meticulous preparation of performance monitoring reports provides clients with clear, insightful analyses of their investments, helping them make informed decisions to achieve their long-term financial goals.Furthermore, James also serves as one of the company's IT specialists. He is responsible for ensuring that colleagues remain proficient and maintain a high level of competency in software and procedures.
