About James Barlow

I was born in Ireland, brought up in England during the 'troubles' and like a lot of other people endured racism because of my roots, so learned early the need for resilience, dealing with challenges head-on, hard work, practical problem solving, building mutual trust, respect, empathy, tolerance and when needed, how to run fast, except now I try to cycle fast. After several years working in the footwear industry, I led an industrial dispute, during the miner’s strike and through the trade union movement took an opportunity to go back to school, learning to learn and eventually earning a degree in economics. Continuing the momentum into an international blue-chip career, my aim has been to think like a businessperson with a core competency in finance, providing financials compliant with accounting standards, credible and transparent but demystified so that working with business colleagues we have been able to deliver solutions to business challenges and opportunities.Working and living for 26 years overseas in the USA and Belgium, I have travelled extensively in Europe, USA, India, China, Russia and the Middle East collaborating on business growth and profitability opportunities with people from diverse cultures where I learnt that we share a common purpose, to build the best life we can for our self, families, friends, and communities, including where we work.I like getting stuff done, making things happen whether it be a business opportunity or laying a new lawn, but you can only achieve so much on your own and ultimately real progress comes from working together with other people, listening, sharing ideas and combining talents, energy and motivation.Years of finance, strategic planning, commercial, credit management, international and business leadership experience has brought me to a place where I am looking for new opportunities where I can make a difference.If you think I can help, please don’t hesitate to get in touch.
